keep believing those myths thrown out by the NAB..xm and sirius is here to stay. and country radio today IS NOT COUNTRY!!
Country radio is indeed STILL COUNTRY. If you don't think so, then obviously you are confusing Americana or some other genre with Country.
Toby Keith
Gretchen Wilson
Reba McEntire
George Strait
Trace Adkins
Joe Nichols
Vince Gill
Brooks and Dunn
These artists are amongst the core of Country music today... if they aren't Country, then I'd sure like to know what genre of music they would fit into then...
toby--redneck rock
gretchin--agreed its country
reba --pop diva
george straight--country
trace adkins--???
joe nichols???
vince gill--pop
brooks and dunn-- redneck rock
what about shanai, faith, carrie underwood and rascall flatts....definitly NOT country..
country--waylon, willie, johnny cash, mel tillis, george jones, tanya tucker...country radio today sounds nothing like country. its mostly redneck pop.
lol... what a hole you're digging yourself... You seriously don't know who Trace Adkins or Joe Nichols are? I think you just any credibility you may have thought you had on the topic of Country music just with that post alone... Also, FYI... Reba hasn't EVER had a Pop hit... neither has Vince Gill. Toby and B&D = "Redneck Rock" Huh??? And it's George "Strait" in case you forgot...
As for your other comments... more laughs...
Shania's COUNTRY's BIGGEST STAR... 38 million copies sold worldwide including 20 million here in the U.S. for just ONE CD!!! I mean, COME ON OVER and see the light!!!
Faith's had some crossover success, but she remains one of Country's biggest stars.
Carrie's had 3 Consecutive #1 hits on the Country charts... and NONE of them sound POP-ish in slightest sense of the word... and she has a 4x Platinum debut Country album, which is STILL selling VERY strong more than a year after it's initial release - you can't say that about the chicks a scant 6 months after their release. She's won a slew of Country music awards... oh, and by the way, she doesn't own a SINGLE Pop hit... your dixie chicks do have a POP hit though in case you forgot about "Landslide".
Rascal Flatts is also very popular act in Country, and I will give it to you that they aren't what you would call "traditional" Country"... they are kind of unique in their sound and harmonies and it will be interesting to see what they do in the future. "What Hurts The Most" is a multi-format smash... they can really pick whatever format they choose. The real Country music fans though seem to love them...
Music always has EVOLVED... you may not like it, but change is just the way of the world and the music world is NO different!!! Look at the charts of ANY format and you'll see that what was popular 25 or 30 or 40 years ago isn't what is popular now... some formats like AOR that were popular 25 years ago, are all but dead now... Country (thankfully) is thriving as the 5% increase in the format's sales over the past year will attest to...
