Cox to Bubba: "More music, less talk."

The title says it all.

Bubba The Love Sponge must now play a song every time he returns from a commercial break. This is typical of local morning shows...but a syndicated show? This is bad.

John Boy & Billy play music - well, maybe not physically, but it's a syndicated show in the vein of Bubba that incorporates music into its program.

Holy crap this sounds bad. The music they played this morning doesn't fit the show at all. Every single song sounded like something that could pass on 97X. I know Bubba used to play music, but at least it suited the audience... the stuff they were playing today was for kids. I see what Cox thinks they're doing, but it's alienating the hell out of their already dwindling audience. It's so bizarre, I almost wonder if this is a stunt that Bubba will exploit to get some more attention.

It doesn't matter how they spin it, the music on the Bone sucks... yet interestingly enough HTQ seems to have a much more diverse playlist. What's up with that?

Here's what was played on Wednesday's show, per Yes.com:

The Jimi Hendrix Experience - Voodoo Child (Slight Return) - 6:00 am [BTLS theme song]
AC/DC - Thunderstruck - 6:04 am
The Red Hot Chili Peppers - Give It Away - 6:18 am
Stone Temple Pilots - Wicked Garden - 6:47 am
Puddle Of Mudd - Psycho - 7:20 am
Alice In Chains - Check My Brain - 7:51 am
Kid Rock - All Summer Long - 8:21 am
Green Day - Welcome To Paradise - 9:23 am
Linkin Park - Lying From You - 9:47 am

And today, after the theme song, Aerosmith's "Back In The Saddle" was played.

I don't know... The Kid Rock selection is a real head-scratcher... This is a country song that actually masquerades as two or three different recycled classic rock songs... What on earth are they thinking over there? Is this Cox trying to have the show appeal to all people with a playlist? As far as I know, Bubba The Love Sponge didn't become popular for playing Kid Rock songs.

CC did this awhile back with MJ (and apparently Ryan Seacrest's morning show as well). But he is on four CHR stations and plays music in that format. I just don't get how Kid Rock's "All Summer Long" has any business running on The Bone.

Oh I don't think that will last long!! Bubba has made his mark on the bay area and now he has branched off to Internet Radio. If Cox pulls something stupid like Sirius / XM did, he still has a fall back project (Internet Radio) and i'm confident that he will kick ass on the Net as long as the FCC don't get involved in trying to regulate Internet Radio station! And with all the professional Internet Radio stations and the not so professional or wannabe stations if they were to do something they would of already stuck by now! I think its just growing pains at Cox or they got a new PD trying to make a name for himself!
