Cox to sell Birmingham?

Wouldn't it be funny if cumulus bought the zone just to keep Finebaum out of Birmingham?

Well, Lew Dickey did say Finebaum would never work for Cox in Birmingham. Perhaps he had an inside tip.

I hate to hear this. The Cox stations are strong ratings performers for the most part and seem to be well-cared for and well run relative to the competition.

Four of the top five Arbitron performers in Birmingham are owned by Cox, so clearly this is a major shift in thinking for the company or a telling sign that radio may not be a profitable industry except in the largest markets.

I'm also curious to know what will happen to Rick & Bubba's multi-million dollar contract with Cox and the Cox-owned studio space they occupy in Vestavia Hills. Of course, it could be that they've made so much money at this point that they'd just buy the space from Cox, if they haven't done so already.

I was wondering the same thing about Rick and Bubba. This sell-off will most definitely affect them. I do know that the suits at Cox were considering moving Rick and Bubba from their studios in Vestavia to the new Cox studios in Meadowbrook because the rent at the Vestavia location was so high, and they have plenty of room in a undeveloped area of the new studios to move them. Granted, they would probably lose their ability to have people stand outside of the window and watch them simply due to the location in the building.

Also, do you think that Dubose and Nelson have the money to just operate the stations locally? Just a thought. I fear what will happen to the stations if Clear Channel or Cumulus buys them. I still have friends employed by (formerly) Cox and don't wanna see anything happen to them.

It will also be interesting to see if Clear Channel (WDXB/The Bull) will make an effort to get Rick and Bubba and eliminate Dollar Bill and Madison. I am friends with Dollar Bill, but he's been seeing the writing on the wall for years.

This is a story that is FAR from over...

After the last few years, it'll be a step backwards in the show if they lose the 'golden tickets' in-studio audience option now.

If you know the show's history with their previous company Citadel, this adds a whole another layer upon this news.
