Speaking as one who knows little about programming, I have watched more than 1 heritage Soft AC/Light station start venturing in a more Hot AC direction with the end result being a format change after a few years of experimenting. While I'm not a 106.9 listener, if it sounds more current and less "lite" than it did a couple of years ago and the ratings are falling concurrent with that change, it sounds to me like history is likely repeating itself. What's that they say about insanity and trying a failed policy over and over while expecting a different result?
The same thing happened with 96.9 in Lexington. Up until a couple years ago, they were the all "Soft Rock" Adult Contemporary that they had been for years and years (same as Lite 106.9 was). Now they are leaning heavily in a Hot AC direction and playing much more current stuff than the "soft rock of the 70's 80's and 90's". Interesting thing about it though, 94.5, their main competitor, has shifted more in an AC direction from their long-time Hot AC format. So, it's kinda like they flip-flopped.

Curious...did 96.9's ratings take a hit when they went that way?

Did 96.9 have ratings in the first place?

Valid question...I always assumed they did OK, having had the same format for years upon years and a signal that, at least on paper, should burn holes in concrete downtown.

Actually 96.9 Lexington's antenna is halfway towards Paris. The only FM downtown is their sister station 106.3. their antenna is atop the Financial Center running 6kw.

I wonder what kind of changes, if any that they will make.

Well, for one thing, they'll be going from an old owner with virtually no debt to a new one which will, presumably, have a substantial debt load to service. That may well influence operations.

Whether it's a bank or a radio station, a new owner with a nut to crack is never a good thing for the staff--or for the customers/listeners.
