COYOTE AND CATHY FIRED ?

Guess so...the website rockinhits971.com doesn't have them on the program schedule and they weren't on this morning. I don't want Bob and Tom taking over but I guess they probably will.

I've heard different rumors, but I won't say here because I don't know any of them to be fact. I hope Cumulus will do somthing with them. I'm sure that Ole Coyote isn't ready for retirement yet? Keep in mind he is also a songwriter and that he may put more effort into as well.

They are out with zero fanfare. Look for "a new morning show to begin" shortly. I wonder B & T'S arrival will cause RQQ
to continue to head in a harder rock direction. They've been doing that over the last few months anyway.

I would guess that Coyote has/will retire from radio, but I doubt he'll be doing any writing. He's been fighting serious
issues pretty hard since he left SCRQ. I would guess Cathy will show up locally soone enough in a limited capacity.
Unless they move them to 106.7 for a new format after the first of the year??? I'd guess that would be a longshot.
Thoughts?

Did they even get to say goodbye to their listeners??? Our version of another radio legEND possibly disposed of like
a empty coffee cup. Sad if this is the case. Typical if it is the case.

This is sad. I have enjoyed Coyote since the early to mid 70's when he did evenings at 1300 WMAK. He is one of a few radio broadcasters who has spent most (but not all) of his career in Nashville. I find him to be one of the most quick-witted and fun to listen to jocks that I have ever heard. I wish him well.
Cathey is a true professional as well. She is one of the best (if not the best) female radio personality in Nashville. I hope another station in Nashville hires her.
As far as B&T goes. I thought they had peeked a few years ago. I thought it was funny what I read that said that Clear Channel which syndicates B&T wanted them on a Cumulus station in Nashville. If B&T were so good wouldn't Clear Channel want them on a Clear Channel station?

reality is overrated.

Hey Old Guy,

Do you remember when he did overnights on WSM-AM?

They were let go yesterday and there was no goodbye to the listeners. They simply disappeared from the airwaves. Classy way to treat talent, eh?

That's how Cumulus operates. I recall when they changed 106.7 from "The Planet" to Urban AC "Kiss 106.7" At 11:45 AM, a few days before Xmas, (I want to say this was 1998) the Planet was rolling along, when all the sudden, the On Air Jock start seeing all this Kiss 106.7 stuff on the music log on the computer, and the music was different. The Planet's staff was called in and fired. What a Xmas gift! No Job! Kiss 106.7 didn't last long. How many format changes has that station been through since it went on as WNPL, 106.7 "The Planet"?
This is the way Lou Dickey and his stiff shirt company works. Lou, Mike, David, nor John Dickey have no compassion for anybody. Someone told me that's how their father rasied them!

Bobby Knight, the afternoon guy forever in the market, whose talents were recently squandered by being dumped into middays, was let go this morning. We don't need no stinkin' talent! (Well, not if it costs more than minimum wage, I guess.)

That's CUME-LESS for ya. No class.

It's obvious Cumulus doesn't know how to run a radio station. Coyote & Cathy were entertaining, at least. They were fresh instead of liner card reading jocks that rule the airwaves today. Cumulus changed the format of WRQQ eleven times in the four years that I worked for them. They won't do any better with Bob & Tom. I guarantee it. They don't know how. Mark my words, they'll change again in 6 months or less, and Bob & Tom will be history in a year. Just like Bob & Sheri, just like Rob & Nikki, just like JT & Nikki, just like JT & Kristen, just like Downtown Billy Brown.

Bob & Sheri may have lasted two years. But I never liked them anyway.

Jan, you left out what was probably the shortest morning show stint in Nashville. Hollywood Hendrix and Kristen Calpino were together for about two weeks when Star 97.1 was all-80's.

I am not from Nashville, but visit there from time to time and I am pretty familiar with the market. Let's clear up some mis-conceptions. First, I have never heard of a radio station who fired an air talent go on the air and explain why or let the talent say goodbye. Get real. That never happens.
Why is it that most of the people who post on these boards are so entirely clueless of how this industry works? What happened with Cyote and Kathy is common in every market, by every company. I'm sure the radio station will be fine without them. The show will go on. The listeners will get over the loss and life as we know it will go on.
And, to the poster who wondered why if Bob and Tom are a Clear Channel product, they are not on a CC station, again I say, get real. CC owns the company who distributes Bob and Tom and they will place it on many non CC stations, much like they do the countless other Premier products.
I have heard the station you mentioned, and from the sound of that station, it sounds like they will be much better off with Bob and Tom than the previous show.
I have friends who work for Cumulus in other cities and I hear good things about them. Maybe those that don't agree are former employees who liked to stir up false rumors or were otherwise not talented enough to make it in the new world we all work in. Is that possible??

Norman is O-U-T

Thanks for the replies. It wasn't my favorite show, but I sort of got into the habit of switching back and forth from them to 96-3 Jack FM just to compare music and once in a while C&C were actually sort of funny. I guess if you like something, record it (radio, tv) because it's here one day and gone the next.

Norman, it doesn't sound like you know the market much at all, especially the tastes of the market. You seem to have a narrow point of view rather than a knowledge of the local big picture.

Yes, it does also happen that talent is suddenly let go and asked not to come back, and that scenario continues to increase as the corporate radio mindset takes further hold in Nashville. But it also still happens in this market that air talent is terminated and allowed to finish out a few shifts before leaving the air, so to say "that never happens" is untrue here.

Further, to say "I'm sure the radio station will be fine without them. The show will go on. The listeners will get over the loss and life as we know it will go on." is to show ignorance of the show, the station, and its audience. The audience for Coyote and Cathy is a completely different audience than that for the Bob & Tom show. It doesn't appear that it's just this show that's being booted, but the listeners as well. The show will not go on, the show is ending, and a whole 'nuther show for a different audience is going to be in its place.

To say that "from the sound of that station, it sounds like they will be much better off with Bob and Tom than the previous show," shows that you are considering only your tastes and not the tastes of the many listeners who appreciated Coyote & Cathy & Bobby, et al., and the station's format. For instance, while I know they have a lot of listeners in several cities, in my and a lot of other Nashvillians' opinions, the Bob & Tom show should never be allowed on the airwaves. This change has come about as the result of a corporate decision, yet those who listened to the show and format are now no better off at all now that it's lost.

You also don't know that the corporation in question doesn't have the best reputation in Nashville in the industry or with listeners. Although they've made a couple of good moves to improve that reputation in the more recent past, overall the jury's still out. This definitely hasn't helped.

And finally, you are jumping in and commenting on a situation when there are still a few more things to play out. Stay tuned...

Norman, it seems you did not understand my point. I know how distribution works, I was just pointing out that if B&T were that good, CC would want them on one of their own stations instead of pimping them out to a competator. Maybe you just do not understand competition.

Contracts are up at Citadel. Any chance they'll be moving to mornings at 103?

If KDF is still doing country I think the answer is no. Cathy has done quite a bit of country radio and Coyote has done some. I don't think they can go against Jerry House and win the time slot.

Jerry House seems to have survived today's radio enviornment.

Wow, the Bobby Knight firing is a surprise. You have to wonder what else will happen prior to and with Bob & Tom's arrival
at the station now playing Elton John and Crosby, Stills and Nash (but admittedly rocking up more and more??) Jetfli, you
hit it on the nail, nuther show, nuther set of listeners. Lots of fishy stuff, that's not lovey, touchy keep the current listeners
going on at the Format of the Month Club. I wouldn't suggest an all out flip, though.

As far as Stormin' Norman's post...

I agree with Jetfli, some of the very best and longest term air personalities in this market have had a chance to say goodbye before
a flip and move. But, certainly not all, as with Jack, etc. But, didn't the new Oldies 97.1 promote and embrace for ratings and revenue the fact that they (Cumulus) hired the very same people Jack fired when Oldies 96.3 flipped on May 13, 2005? The same people fired again this week!!! I can name quite a few who said goodbye for one reason or another, all in a classy way, but yeah, it's tough to be told
you're out after your last shift this afternoon, but please stay and say great things about us!

I understand format flips and starting fresh with new talent, etc., don't get me wrong...it is part of business. Norman, you're being
a bit calious (but honest) about this and some of the reactions on this board are real feelings from some who have been canned this way. Have you had this happen, yet??? You're day will come, about 100% assured if you stay in radio. Hope no one fired this week gets
wind of your demise when it happens.

I also think anyone working in radio today (actually anytime ever) IS "clueless"....but for a different reason that the way you
mean (I actually know you were referring to posters on this board, but some of them are in radio) ... everyone is clueless
....that they'll be on the air or have a job tomorrow.

Paul O --- Gerry House is still a success because of one person (who posts here often) who shall remain nameless@romer979!!! Yes!

They were both a little bitter on the way it was handled when interviewed on Fox 17 news last night. Anyone else catch it?

Nock
