Have not heard the morning show yet...but heard Terri Springs (?) doing middays. Are you kidding me? I was expecting young and uptempo and instead they put on an tired, elderly sounding outdated midday woman????? Wasn't she doing AC several years ago...She belongs on the new KJUL or Sunny. Please tell me this is a joke and the real midday girl is on her way...Count me as VERY DISAPPOINTED!

(I'm sorry. I thought Beasley was serious about taking on KWNR...If Terri is the real deal...the Coyote is a bust in waiting)

You gotta be kidding me! You say Terri is a has been? I know Terri and she will bring more to the plate than you can ever! Terri is the midday talent and I also hear she is the MD! Terri is more of a professional talent than you will ever be! She can interview better than anyone else in the Vegas airwaves and has been awarded the most Broadcast Awards than anyone else in the valley. Beasley was smart to hire her as the midday talent because she brings a lot to the table and will lock in the female audience better than any other talent on the midday can. Wait till you hear who the afternoon and evening talents are. Brad Hansen is a smart guy to lock in local talent and his next blast from the vegas past will surely shock everyone in Vegas!

I'm sure Terri was quite the broadcaster 10 or 15 years ago. And, I'm sure her collection of broadcast awards from back in the day (when Vegas was market #90) is quite impressive..However, yesterday listening she was AWFUL. She sounds old...and very KJUL.

For once I agree with some of the anti-Vegas radio people on this board...The Coyote has recycled another old, tired Vegas radio talent. I was expecting someone young and exciting from the Coyote...at the very least someone with some excitement.

I WAS excited about Coyote's battle with KWNR...after listening yesterday it sounds like the battle's already been won...Congrats KWNR.

I noticed Coyote started playing a lot more early 90s gold this week. Between the jocks and music, it appears Coyote won't be the young targeted country station they seemed like they would be when they first flipped. One thing to keep in mind is the bulk of the country audience locally and nationally is 35-54. There are some 18-34s who like country, but probably not enough to make it a country station's primary target.

I had 3 decades of radio success and am enjoying my retirement. I never attacked people in such a manner.
You can't do better yourself, so why criticize? Like my kids would say....quit hatin!
By the way, she has done afternoons in Seattle, and Phoenix(KMLE KKLT, and mornings in Denver.) She has succeeded everywhere she has been. Sounds like the only has been is you sir!
Terrie has the ability to "touch" people she meets. This and her strong work ethic, and background will lead to her cashing bonus checks in a couple of books.
Either you don't know Terrie, or good radio...hmmm...maybe both!

i think you all are horrid. Terri may not be the right fit for Coyote, but she's a person, and a very nice person at that. Saying things like "She's old and AWFUL" are very hurtful to a person. Where are your morals? I don't know her personally, but have met her once and thought she was wonderful and nice.

I agree....

Further, will one of you critical geniuses please explain the point in attacking any On-Air professional on this, or any other discussion board?

What is your objective? To irradicate the last few experienced Las Vegas On-Air Personalities that actually know how to start up a station? Fine. Let youth be served! Now....

Who are these programmers going to get? What small market talent is out there ready to take on KWNR's All-Pro Airstaff for 20K per year? Name names.

You guys crap all over anyone who has a gig, or wants to make either decent community-serving radio again, or a decent living as an On-Air Performer.

Fine again. JACK-style Automation for everyone?

Get a clue. Either stand up for On-Air Talent, or stand-up for automation.

(Of course, asking hit & run bomb-throwers hiding behind aliases to stand up for anything is pointless....yet I soldier on.)

Which is it going to be?

Terrie is as classy a lady and broadcaster as you will meet. Let me share one story.
I hosted the KMZQ (god rest it's broadcasting soul) 20th Anniversary Radio Broadcast back in 2003 -- and we had an on-air reunion of many former radio personalities who graced the airwaves. Terrie was an in-studio co-host along with me. The phone calls for her were incredible. I'd like to think I made even a little impression on the Las Vegas airwaves -- but it's nothing compared to the reaction to Terrie.
Whenever someone new hits the airwaves at a station -- I never give my opinion after one show. Even one week. It's a new studio -- new board -- new call letters -- and in Terrie's case on COYOTE -- a new format. Day One will also be a little awkward. Listen again today -- tomorrow -- next week. You will hear "true class".

I agree, what a unjustified attack likely by someone
who's work isn't up to snuff to begin with.

I'm sure many would be interested in checking out your work. Personally, I find it refreshing that they've hired experienced/mature sounding personalities instead of "jocks" that sound like 5 year olds on a sugar high. It's always nicer being talked too, rather than being talked at.

Nice to see lvradiovet shutdown. I have heard the lady (Terri) and she sounds great and better than many here. Also glad to hear that Coyote Country is playing to an audience over 18.

Re:LVRADIOVET

"lvradiovet" is very discrentaled about not getting a call for a better shift. Could be a kid who claims to be the best talent in Vegas.

LVRADIOVET, are you ashamed of yourself for calling Terri a "HAS BEEN!"??? I hope so! For you, maybe you should get off the website and get back to romper room. You'll never be better than even a part time jock on the overnights. Nor will you ever be better than the board op running the show at KDWN! Its a shame that you'll always have to live with, A board op having a better vocal delivery than you will ever have!

Fear is for the Weak!</P>

I heard Terri Springs for the first time the other day and was shocked by how unconfident she sounded on the air, especially considering her long broadcast history. "Coming up, we'll have some great country songs," she said. "Ok?"

The "Ok" is what floored me...as if she was seeking approval to continue. I can't reproduce in words the shaky tone in her voice, the hesitancy, but anyone who has listened carefully knows what I mean. I am sure Terri is a wonderful person, but if this is the caliber of talent Coyote Radio hopes to combat KWNR with, then KWNR can schedule its victory dance for tomorrow. (It doesn't help that Coyote's morning show is the black hole of charisma.) If this sounds mean, so be it. This board is about opinions, and if we can't share them, then our discussions will be as bland as tapioca pudding.

You are a putz, and a coward by the way.

Did you mean disgruntled? I think so. The answer is no, not really.

I will say this, I didn't anticipate taking so many bullets over this one. I'm giving you my own personal opinion from what I've heard this week. I think the Coyote has destroyed any momentum it had with bad jocks. No offense to Terri personally, or the droves of friends & fans on this board, but the station sounds tired ALREADY. I'm not mocking age or experience...I respect both, however, a bad jock is a bad jock whether he/she is 25 or 55.

JD, I do stand up for jocks over automation. Perhaps if the jocks weren't so bland, lifeless, and boring there would be LESS automation. Honestly, from what I've heard from the Coyote's midday jock this week a salary ABOVE $20k would be a travesty.

PREDICTION...write this one down peoples...The Coyote will show some positive signs in its first two trends and maybe its first book...after then it will sink and forever play second-fiddle to KWNR. The minute the Coyote cracked the mic it was doomed to fail.

Re:LVRADIOVET

> You still haven't answered my question? What are YOUR qualifications? Terrie has been in Seattle, Phoenix, and Denver? And you?
Mike O Neil has been in LA...JD all over the country! I am amazed at your ignorance. Obviously, you aren't a professional because you always give a jock a 3 week period to get in their "comfort zone" first of all.
I had done everything in my career except be a GM for god's sake. Since you love to critcize people so much, have the guts to tell us WHO you are and WHERE you work so we can openly critique you just like you do everyone else.
I may not agree with Mike O Neil or JD, but I give them credit and respect them for not hiding like an infant, and tearing people apart.
At least when I critque someone, I know who they are, where they have been, and what they are and are not capable of. I am amazed their is still prejudice in the 21st century. Yes I said prejudice! Pre-judging people....how can you effectively judge someone you don't know?
Is there anyone you like or respect? I would love to hear something positive from you. I would like to know where you got your start, who you learned from, etc. Tell us your story.

Actually 'vet, I know you do....We want the same thing; Really good jocks, on really good Las Vegas radio stations.
As for Terri....She's a pro, and yes, her delivery sounds a bit unsure, but it's not because she is. Those of us who know her are aware of the reason, and while I won't speak of it, please take my word, it's out of her control. (Perhaps someone will clue you in privately...)

Also, please stop justifying low On-Air salaries in Las Vegas. Again, I'll ask you to make a reasoned choice; should being an On-Air Personality on a major daypart in Las Vegas, condemn that personality to used cars, rented apartments, and virtually no chance to take part in the Adult Las Vegas Lifestyle they're being asked to relate to? Modest houses here are 400K...Cars are 25-30K....So you really believe anyone doing Mid-days here should be making less that 20?

"PREDICTION...write this one down peoples...The Coyote will

its first book...after then it will sink and forever play
second-fiddle to KWNR. The minute the Coyote cracked the
mic it was doomed to fail."---lvradiovet

They said the same thing about BIG OLDIES 93. While Coyote's road ahead is tough, perhaps the grit and determination shown by their mid-day Goddess will infuse whatever staff they put together. That, and a great PD will give them a chance...slim as it appears now.

I think the best part about Coyote is the competition....The On-Air staff at KWNR is actually thrilled to have someone to take on.

Competition is the crucible that creates greatness. If Las Vegas Radio is to progress, it will be because of competition, not in spite of it. And so all will prosper....instead of just sales, and management.

Why not take you're own advice, Vegas?....That's not a challenge, it's an invitation. Your words here deserve the credibility of your true identity. The same with lvradiovet. I have no problems with anything anyone has said here, except from those who are wrong and hide behind an alias. (voiceguy1, drtylawndre)

There's a superb promo on WMAL,Washington DC..."If everyone agrees, everyone has a good chance of being....wrong." That certainly applies here.

That statement begs your true identity, does it not? If you truly know all this, do not we the critiqued, have the right to know the credentials these unerring statements are based on? I for one, as a student of this game, could certainly use that kind of direction....

JD...of course a midday talent in market #32 should be paid a decent and far wage. The $20k reference was to make my point about how bad I believe middays sounds on The Coyote. Now, if there are unknown factors involved...perhaps I need to give Terri break...Then again, if she is the pro everyone speaks of then why hasn't she overcome these "unkown factors?"

I don't care about her qualifications. I don't care about broadcast awards. I don't care what stations she has worked at. I don't care if she parallels Mother Teresa in her personal life...I care about the here and now. The fact is she does not sound very good on the station. Her AC delivery puts me to sleep. She sounds old and she sounds tired. (Not exactly the image I would want to portray if I'm a new country station with a successful heritage station to beat.) As I've said before, I'm disappointed in the jock direction the station has gone.

As many times as I've read complaints from you guys about Vegas regurgitating old talent, I'm shocked that you're pounding me over this one. The Coyote could have been a source for something new and exciting...instead it's more of the same.

I'm not sure why everyone is so sensitive about opinion and frank discussion about the market and its players...I enjoy reading the opinions of others...especially those that I disagree with. We, at least those of us that currently work IN radio, are in the entertainment business. It's a cut throat profession and not for those with thin skins.

So, get over it. It's just my opinion. Nothing more. Nothing less. Honestly, I want to hear from the person that actually thinks Terri sounds good. Seriously, if you've actually listened over the past week, and honest-to-God think she is the right person for middays for a new country station in a big battle...SPEAK UP! Justify your words as to why she sounds so great. I would be interested in knowing your perspective.

Re:LVRADIOVET

God you are an (BLEEP)! So what did you say your name is? Oh ya, you don't have the guts to say but, you do think you have the right to call this lady (BLEEP). As you say get over it. Your opinion has lost any validity or meaning and I will say for the put down on a lady I will ask others to avoid responding to such a punk. JD, give it up this is a no-talent gopher who likes to call anyone over 25 old, picks on ladies and lives to disagree with anyone who will respond.
Quit responding!
