If you find any unscoped recordings of WBRC/WERC from that era, my high school class would love to hear our teacher Jesse Champion doing news on WBRC/WERC at our next reunion if you find some airchecks. When Jesse was forced to leave Birmingham in 1963, he went back to Notre Dame and the University of Michigan, got a Masters Degree, and taught High School and Community College English, Speech, and Debate in Michigan until 1970, when he returned to Birmingham when he got the job at WBRC/WERC. Our band director also told us of his great vocal music talent, but most of us never got to hear him perform. Jesse passed away in late 2007.
