Coyote McCloud passes at age 68

Coyote McCloud Y-107..Kix 104..first voice of CMT ..WQXI 79 Atlanta..WHHY Montgomery (Bill Scott) he was 68..Cirrhosis of the liver. sad news. he really got my attentiom when he was in Atlanta, doing 7-7pm. "Mamas lock up your sheep, 'cause the Coyote is on the air." Classic. I wish I still had that recording.

I can tell you this, he was stunned in the end to hear from so many people sending him good wishes on his facebook page.
What we know and what many in radio management forget at times is all talent feel as valadated as their current job. Sure he was brand, sure he moved the meter, and sure we all wish he had better control of his addiction issues earlier, but you take a guy like that and let him get unreturned phone calls from current pd's who have some better idea that is THEIR idea, and the years of impact start to feel like "did anybody notice and will anybody remember?"

radio talent, like recording artists, sometimes feel empty when their alterego isn't able to perform.
It's what he did. It's what gave him life. And he like many, missed that in the end.

Profound, indeed.

Here you go, Boomer...and everyone else! His song "Nitty Gritty Rock & Roll" and the break from WQXI that inspired it - first featured in a 1976 cassette magazine called AMERICAN AIR CHEXX.

I hate seeing our heroes leave us!

One of a kind talent. I only wish I'd known him personally, before I ended up working at WQXI/94Q. He was gone by then (1980) but his legend lived on!

is the
that one is cool, but the one I''m looking for he did over the doobie brothers song, "China Grove" does anybody have THAT one?

Yes amos! That's the one. Bill Phippen was also a big fan of Coyote's. That intro over China Grove just "toe me up!" The only thing close to it was the jocks on Z-93 in it's infancy. That was so good to hear again.

Not long after Coyote arrived, I moved to Radoi CIty, South Dakota and never heard him again

I remember him well on WQXI doing his thing...He was awesome, wish radio was like that again...
I last hung out with Coyote at Disney World and Epcot around 89 or 90. A true Southern Radio Legend and loaded with energy and talent. May the Great One Rest in Peace!
