Many other smooth jazz stations across the country have tanked and been flipped this year but our smooth jazz outlet just keeps on posting great numbers. Why? Is there something about the valley of the sun that goes hand in hand with the smooth jazz format? Is it the station is on in so many offices or ????? Just find it interesting compared to what has happened with the rest of the country and the smooth jazz format.

Many cities across the country have classical or new agey- type stations, Phoenix does not (we MISS you, Tory Malatia!). KYOT has more quiet music and less talk than any other station in the valley. The music appeals to a wide variety of listeners but w/o the Beth/Bill type chatter and yes, it is on in A LOT of offices. The station makes beaucoup dollars for Cheap Channel w/o a lot of overhead expense.

3 reasons: Phantom Cume and cross-cume from NPR K-Jazz, a higher than average retirement community. Smooth Jazz is the new MOR. and thrid, it is actually a well programmed station, if you spend anytime with it.

I know Keith, and I'm sorry, but I can't hear it in the part of Ahwatukee I live in so I didn't count it.

Try 89.3. It's their South Mountain translator (licensed to Sun Lakes). It's audible in parts of Ahwatukee. South Mountain blocks most of the 89.5 signal.

FYI---Tory Malatia is the President and GM of WBEZ in Chicago, an NPR affiliate.

and... KBAQ also streams on it's website, kbaq.org so you might try it there.
