CP: WVVT 670 Essex Junction, VT

This is obviously going to be a spanish station......

Up in Burlington area? Is there much of a Hispanic population?

The map co-ordinates, translated to a Google satellite pic, shows the proposed tower would be east of
Rt 127 and west of the Winooski river and Malletts Bay Ave, Winooski/Colchester area, close to Burlington

Not sure what format. Ethnic on 25kW day? I would think news/talk maybe...? classic country,
oldies, what else? Who knows.

Did quick search of Hecht and Alonso (names provided by radio-locator) and found this '04 edition of
NERW which says...

>>We may as well start in VERMONT, where there'll be an auction fight between two 1590 applications in the Burlington area. Jet Fuel Broadcasting wants 10 kW day/500 watts night in Winooski, while "RAMS II" (one of the bigger applicants nationally) wants 50 kW day/320 watts at night in Essex Junction. Charles A. Hecht and Alfredo Alonso want 25 kW day/17 kW critical hours/400 watts at night on 670 in Essex Junction as well.
(snip)

*There were ten applications in the window for MAINE, including a bunch for new stations way up north. Steven Wendell applied for 250 watts on 650 in Raymond. Charles Hecht and Alfredo Alonso want 50 kW day/1500 watts night on 750 in Hampden.

oh, and from another '04 edition of NERW:

>>More AM action this week? You betcha - consultant Charles A. Hecht and Mega Broadcasting head honcho Alfredo Alonso have their application for a new 670 in Essex Junction accepted for filing. The new signal would run a whopping 35 kW by day, 20 kW critical hours and 350 watts at night from a three-tower array along a bend in the Winooski River just west of Essex Junction.

Mega, as in "La Mega" Spanish format?

Alfredo Alonso is now head of a spanish programming dept for CBS.

Hmm. Though I don't think there's many Spanish speakers up in the Champlain Valley...the foreign language I'd expect to most hear up that way is French, which they DO get from stations across the border! I could be wrong...
