Heard that KCAA in the IE got a CP for 10kW daytime and confirmed on FCC AMQ. Curious as to the engineering... since the IE has a bunch of bad AM signals due to being close to LA, I'm wondering how much improvement this can offer them. How close to KNX can they get? Also, I presume 10kW on 1050 is better than 2.5kW on Salem's 590? Of course, KTIE shoots toward the Victor Valley by day and only towards OC at night, whereas it appears KCAA will reach further into Orange County and even a little of the South Bay during the day.

They'll have to upgrade that gas powered generator that powers the transmitter.

Nope. 10 kw on 1050, half way up the dial, is probably a little less than 2.5 kw on 590, assuming equal radiator efficiency and ground conductivity.

In the LA / SD / IE markets, there is very little listening outside the 10 mV/m contour, so even with more power, the station will strictly be an IE affair.

Good point, David... I was looking at the 5.0 contour when making reference to areas outside of the IE
