CQ CQ CQ, Hi new friends!

Hiya new friends, I've come here to learn and fill in gaps in my knowledge of radios and get a Technicians license so I can transmit and start my journey.
What's started as a neglected new years resolution of mine to get more involved in radio and I wanted to explore whats out there. Currently watching random youtube vids and learning what I can here any there. But I decided its time to put my mind to work and learn what I can.

I've got some exposure and have a strong interest in getting into CW broadcasting. Already got myself a Bencher BY-1 off Ebay for learning CW with paddles, but I need to find a good learning tool for sending more. My pattern recognition has made it to 18/26 letters on my learning so far, but I'm hoping to find a device that will give me practice and practical time using Iambic CW on the Bencher.

I'm open to recommendations but so far I got my heart set on either acquiring an FMJ-464 or a K1EL systems K45 or maybe K1EL systems WinKeyer USB so I can get some practice using a program and work on muscle memory and pattern recognition.

I've got a little experience from programming microprocessors, and a lot of hobby experience with repairing electronics and building a few complicated kits in the form of old analog synthesizers and samplers.

Currently live out in the middle of Texas and look forward to making new friends and learning what I can about radios. Haven't met up with my local radio club as of yet, but I do look forward to getting out and meeting them their next gathering.

The only radios I have are SDRs for listening and no transmitters as of yet (Wanna get my tech license first.) and a WX radio for reports when I'm out hiking or camping. Though I kinda wanna save up and maybe put together a QCX-mini and pair it with nice DIY antenna or just save up for a long time and nab something with a lot of nice features, bands, and CW capability like a nice Elecraft, Icom or Yeasu. I'd like more experience and time to research these things before deciding but welcome any input.

Either way, I'm rambling on enough.

CW nowadays is a nice thing to know, but it will not get you anywhere in geeting a tech license. CW is not a requirement. Most CW is down on the HF bands. You need to concentrate on getting the Tech and then the General.

Good luck on getting your ticket. Don't worry about the code unless you want to learn it as a skill for learning's (and operating on HF's) sake. The code test was removed many years ago. Plenty to do on VHF and above until you get your General.
