Crackers and Milk Over Night On TKK ?

The perfect remedy for insomnia would be for WTKK to put Michael Graham on the over night shift.

Crackers and milk. The perfect answer to a sleepless night. ;)

That's a start but it should be LIVE and Local.

He is. A radio rewind airs from midnight to 1 am, followed by the World Famous Phil Hendrie Show

Agreed. Say this for WTKK: They have live & local talk from 6 am to 7 pm every day and then the rewind
of Graham at midnight, which is local but not live ("Put down the phone. We're not taking calls"). That's a good amount of local content though perhaps one more local show at night wouldn't hurt (don't take away
my Laura though!)...and if Imus is added come Jan. or so, subtract 4 hours or so from that total of
local talk.

Now whether or not that local talk is GOOD is another thing (Graham, McPhee, E&B, Severin)

That's a start but it should be LIVE and Local.

Why?

Overnights exist because stations either program something or sign off. From a business point of view, overnights are used to average down the spot costs of advertising packages, which only makes economic sense if the programming is cheap. Even on a station traditionally live after midnight, such as WBZ, overnights are where you economize. Even when turning big numbers, overnights are a tough sell on their own.

And, since your better talent is on during the day, why not run them when folks who missed their regular broadcast can listen to them. Folks catching the 'rewind' aren't able to call, but since so few listeners ever actually call in to any talk show, that's not exactly a deal breaker. The only real drawback is the coverage of breaking news, but little news breaks in the evening, and if anything 9/11ish does break, you can always dump out to whomever your news supplier is and let them run while you figure out the best course of action.

Of course, none of this really matters because the real reason for this thread in revealed in the title. If Graham WAS live at midnight, the problem would still be it was Graham and not someone more politically attuned to the views of the originator.

Regards,
TSB

Midnight to Six is the appropriate time for Graham - dead or alive ;)

yes--WTKK has done that with Severin and Barnicle and I remember WRKO re-running Howie--and even
Tom Leykis (I think Tom did mid mornings just before he went to Calif. and they would re-broadcast it
at 10 pm. Leykis used to find the term "talkmaster" kind of interesting, so he did liners saying "Submit
to the talkmaster! After the game on WRKO" (they had Sox at the time then too)

And speaking of pre-recorded liners that's Pete Gustin you're hearing on WRKO talking about Howie's
return. Pete was nicknamed "Blindspot" by Howie and "Weird Blind Pete" by the Two Chicks (he's
legally blind) and does a lot of funny bits for Big Show, etc., on WEEI (http://www.petesbits.com )
He's the guy who sings the Planet Mikey Theme too

The (Graham) crakers bit was funny the first few times, you have mikled it to
the point where is sounds juvenile, let it die.
