And we thought Gene Peterson was a homer. Craig Ackerman is a clown and he's proven it since his first day on the job. He's a worse homer than Peterson ever was.
I agree that having a homer doing the play by play can be really annoying.
But having a homer on the broadcast team doing the color isn't necessarily a bad thing. Having someone pulling for the home team provides contrast and balance with a play by play man who works at not taking sides in the games.
My favorite example of that was the late Loel Passe, who worked in the booth with Gene Elston for many years. I loved listening to him.
I also agree that Gene Peterson often went over the line, but we should remember that he was hired and paid by the Rockets, who wanted him to puil for the team. It was his job.
Peterson and Foley were fun to listen too, though, and a lot of that was because they played off each other so well. Being a Midwesterner, I also enjoyed listening to them when I lived there because they were obviously from "up north."
If Ackerman's broadcasting how the Rockets want him to, that's fine. I would wonder if he'd ever get another job if he leaves Houston acting like this.

I also enjoyed listening to Jim Foley because of his encyclopedic knowledge of the team and basketball in general, and also because he had so much fun on the air.
My favorite Gene/Jim moment came when the Rockets won the NBA championship the first time. When that game ended, I swear to you they sounded like they were having orgasms on the air. They were loving the moment and they wanted everybody listening in to enjoy it with them.
