How many people who have worked in radio in, say, Eureka or even Vacaville have been making $11 an hour

I've worked radio in Eureka...and $11 what the PD was making...if that...

$22 would be a major bump!

But who goes from Eureka to SF??

Well, Mark Tamayo, KRON meterologist, for one. I know there are others but I can't think of them at the moment. Now as to who would move from Eureka to SF, I'm not sure why anybody would. Eka ia great place, well as long as you have a job, anyway.

My dumb question:

Any clue as to who/what operator this is?

Says "new"...some one flipping formats, a new "move in"...

Or is it a "chain yanker" to see what kind of response they'd get?

Except for KTRB there hasn't been a move-in in decades. A lot of people use the term "new" to refer to a format change, not a new station.

Hmmm....now that I think of it, when was the last move-in to the SF market prior to KTRB? Have there been any? I guess if you consider San Mateo a sub-market then 1550's COL change from San Mateo to SF in the 1950s might be considered one. I can't think of any FM move-ins at all. Interesting trivia question.

Good question, D.K. I can't think of any other (recent) move-ins other than 1550
via the COL change...

Speaking of Eureka, WHO does ratings for the gaggle of radio stations up there?
Last I heard in the mid-1990s it was Willhight (after Birch "died"), but I can't find
anything in Eureka media about recent radio ratings in that area. Hmmmm....

Those are few and far to come by...and not just in radio. Plus the housing market is ridiculous (in comparison to the median annual income). Eureka only works if you've already made it and want to rid yourself of the corporate BS.

Don't know if they still use them, but when I left in 2 years ago the sales team was equiped with Eastlan's ratings.

Well, there's been some facilities changes. I'm not sure if you call 1510's move to Piedmont a move-in. But it gave them somewhat better San Francisco coverage. 1220 had a power increase and added nighttime. 93.3 and 104.9 moved South. 1550 could have moved south and gone to 50 KW.

I'm thinking of a "move-in" as a change from one market to another, such as a non-market rimshot moving into the nearest metro. 1510 is still in the same market, likewise 93.3. I guess 104.9 is a move-in as a change from Alameda County (SF market) to Santa Clara County (SJ market), even though the effecive listening area probably isn't all that different.

1550 I'm thinking of as a move-in because San Mateo has been regarded as a sub-market (KCSM-TV was for a long time not considered part of SF, but that could also be KQED's doing -- in the old days KQED did lots of trickery to try to keep KCSM and KTEH away from their audience and underwriters.) Thus, a move from SM to SF might be a move-in. As for 1220, that's not a COL change, as the others (except for 93.3) are.

Jeezzzz...why do I get into such trivia.....?
