Well the website says Steve Gribben and Sandy Newton, but David Gold is on right now. Oh yeah, and they're now calling the show "the player to be named later show". And as we speak Mike Hambrick is doing the news. Remember him from a couple of nights ago? I say put Brian Wilson there and be done with it. However this is WBAP, so I expect an idiot to end up with that time slot. It sucks because I hear radio stations from all over the country which have some tallent. However here in Dallas we end up with people like Mark Davis and Ernie Brown.

Gordon,

What do you expect? I bet they're paying 45K for the job, if that.

Not even an attempt to attract decent talent. 'BAP goes small market.

Another chink in the WBAP armor. They dont seem too enthused to put someone with chops into that airslot.

WBAP

Gentlemen! Gentlemen! See here! The Book hasn't started yet; we are in the summer doldrums. Be patient.
Mark Davis has a new national show, so I don't see what the problem is with him unless one disagrees with his politics, and after all, his is a political show.
Unless you are privvy to inside information, how do you know what is being offered and to whom it is offered?
Openings at WBAP are rare, so why the rush?
I, for one, am not going to speculate.
Remain calm! It's going to be all right!
We now return to the regularly scheduled yada-yada!
Edited by twidget on 08/20/05 03:25 PM.

Dr. Phil, is that you?

Who's picking up Davis? So far, nobody. He's been coasting in DFW for years.

Best guess: evening slot goes to syndication to save money. ABC stations on the block.

It is I, and I'm here to help you get in touch with your inner disc jockey!

The 6-9 shift is too important to syndicate, in my opinion. After Rush and Hannity the syndicated talent level kind of tapers off. Again, that's my opinion. I have my preferences, but any guess would be speculation, fueling the all important rumor mill.

I don't know the particulars but ABC must have seen and heard something in Mark to nationalize his show. From what I heard on his earlier syndication, he was not quite as "in your face" as his local show. Mark is well read and intelligent with a broad vocabulary and I'm happy he's getting the chance to go national.

These are only my opinions. I don't have the inside skinny.

I have a buddy that works in the building. He tried nosing around last week and was basically told that no one knows and the ones that do know won't say.
Which I guess translates into mind your own business and go back to your cubical.
I don't think any of the "guess hosts" that I've heard so far are the right fit and I've listened to at least half on my way to work. The two best so far to me have been David Gold and Mike Hambrick. Davids material is good but that voice of his is the proverbial chalk on a blackboard. I didn't get to hear much of Mikes shot last Tuesday, but what I did hear was really good. Though he would need to pick up the pace and put more inflection in his delivery. He's got that matter-of-fact-news-pro delivery. I don't think a one day look at him was enough.
Now, as far as who will get the job? I'd be willing to bet the paycheck (and that ain't much) that we will all get a big surprise at the beginning of the next book, and it will be someone we haven't heard yet.

And for those of you who don't like Mark Davis. Have you REALLY listened to his topics, delivery and rapport with the listeners? I think he is one of the best meat-and-potatoes hosts in town.

What was funny though, was, he got many
more of the "rabid moonbat" as well as
the "uber paranoid right' call-ins!

Made for great radio, with Mark's ability
to 'focus in' like a laser beam and
dissect a caller's mis-perceptions
and raging partisanship or paranoia ...

I thik for awhile he was the specific
target of the Mt. Vernon/Waco/Branch
Davidian/David Koresh sympathsizers.
