Thoughts on coverage?

I heard Channel 8 did not find out about the crash until Wednesday morning. They didn't lead with it last night?!

I don't really think you're going to draw too many people into a debate about coverage of this tragedy, (i.e. who was first , who was best etc...) And, the number of reads vs. the number of replies to your post (I think) pretty much backs that up.

To answer your question, I don't believe anyone "lead" with the story, as the incident occurred after 10pm.
It's my understanding that 13 had, toward the end of their show, a brief reader about "a bad accident in Ontario County", or some such thing, ...and not much else,... but I'm not entirely sure about that.

Yes the accident did happen after 10pm that night. While I didn't watch the news that night, I'm sure there was hardly any details about the accident for the news at 11. The story went over the wires and the net once everything was known, so it did catch national attention.

I agree with Kohoutek though I don't think there is a point to debate coverage of the tragedy. Maybe if it was a weather related story or scandal, but not a tragic car accident where so many are mourning.

Blessedly, I was off (already had my insane day of the year when the nor'easter and Virginia Tech happened on the same day), but as I understand it, the fatalities were not confirmed until the middle of the night and who they were not until early morning.

Don't really have comments on anyone else's broadcasts, except that the subtle dramatic music played over 10's 5pm broadcast made me want to punch the TV screen.

Apparently we have to be told that five young girls killed in a car crash is a tragedy. ::)

I meant that 8 did not lead with the crash the next day and instead lead with Durand drowning.
