Crawford Adjusts Format in Albany.

Looks like Crawford Broadcasting is tweaking its Albany AM property, WDCD 1540.
The station has been running borkered religious shows and some sanke oil programming for quite some time, with a fill of Christian AC music.
Tomorrow they launch a new format...again on 1540. All they will say is, "Christian talk radio will never be the same. The all new 1540 WDCD is coming tomorrow." Anyone know what's up????

Maybe somebody from WDCX has a clue. Otherwise, you might want to check the Hudson Valley board.

Crawford does have a semi-successful format here in Rochester on WLGZ 990-AM which features music that our parent's listened to. Sinatra, Perry Como, Dean Martin, artists like that. Maybe the station in Albany will switch to that format. I am not certain but it's a guess. And if the station in Albany does go to that format, whats to say that both stations could not be simulcast as one way to save money? Personally I highly doubt that idea would work since the format here in Rochester depends on local personalities.

Believe it or not, 1540 in Albany had the SAME "Legends" format as WLGZ/990. They even brought back the original WPTR call-letters. It was a nice great Standards station (with rock and roll oldies on Saturday nights). But for no reason, they dumped the "Legends" format and brought the "G*d squad" back to 1540 and brought those ("yeccch") WDCD call-letters back to 1540 once again. I wish Crawford would make up its' mind and get it right. I personally would love to hear some oldies (a-la the late WWKB) on 1540 once again. With a signal that covers the northeast like a blanket, it could be cure from the "WWKB blues". Oh, yes....go BACK to W-P-T-R.

Soapbox mode off.....

Remember GOD makes money! And besides here in Rochester Crawford has a sister FM station that is programmed for the there-after crowd, which is one reason that the company has left WLGZ-AM alone with its Standards format.

It’s a darn shame to hear what Crawford did in Albany. It appears that who ever is running that operation out there can’t make up their minds what format to stick with.

As for call letters I'm surprised they didn't use W P T P. (Pass the Plate)

Might it be the HD signal? Their website reports they are on in HD; could that have just happened today?

UPDATE: I just listened to the audio stream on the website, and it sounds like the website itself was launched today. I would guess that the website is what they were talking about. The schedule posted there looks to be like the same one they've had for a while.
Edited by scooterodell on 02/28/06 01:33 PM.

When I read this, I think "Salem." When I think Salem, I think, "buh bye listeners," but considering they are running brokered stuff now and Christian AC music in-between, most of the audience not in tune with that has already long since fled.
