Crazy "Atlanta" X-Band Basting into Greensboro

I just logged 1690 WWAA Adel, GA on my walkman, in my bathroom (which is awful for any sort of radio reception) here in Greensboro, NC. It was about the only thing I could get in the X-Band and it was coming in like a local.

WOR was fighting some spanish music from somwhere unbeknownst to me, and I think I may have caught CHUM - I heard some oldies on 1050 very quietly under a jumble of about 4 or 5 weak signals...didn't make it to the computer in time to match it with the webstream so CHUM's still an if.

KB was also fading in and out, but when it came in, it was BOOMING!

Probably Radio Rebelde from Cuba, as the only US Spanish stations on 710 are talk.

WLON in Lincolnton, NC (near Charlotte) seems more likely. CHUM's highly directional to protect WEPN and doesn't put much signal into the East Coast.

This is either the first or second time I've picked up Cuba...it's the second if they play music on 640. (That one was sitting in a parking lot in Blacksburg, VA)

OK, that makes more sense...I had been getting Charlotte FM's in like locals all day long, and ch 9 was coming in clear enough to watch too. And CHWO was having some problems coming in too, so I guess reception from the north wasn't too good last night.

Now that's quite a haul! I forget what station it was, but my best DX was a 500W urban AC station from Pittsburg or Philly coming in over top of a 50,000 W clear channel. (This was at school, in Blacksburg, VA) Sorry I can't remember the specifics, I'll see where I put the log.
 
WWAA - Atlanta

I don't know why radio-locator.com and other sources still refer to WWAA as Adel, with a CP for Avondale Estates (Atlanta). They've been broadcasting out of Atlanta for a couple of years, first playing classic country and currently as an Air America affiliate.

It doesn't matter where their studios are located. They're still licensed to Adel, according to FCC records, with a CP for Avondale Estates that was issued in March of last year.

They use Avondale Estates in their legal ID now, so I would guess they're already operating under the CP. . .
 
Heard them fairly often in Ohio, sometimes mixing with WRLL and the CNN affiliate out east..again, as the "Wild America" station.<P ID="signature">______________
Did the Corinthians ever write back?</P>
