Crazy idea? Maybe, but...

With all this talk about where Fast Eddie Coyle will end up, what about this insane scenario. After all, this is radio folks where anything is possible. (Remember, 97.1 is playing a Mexican song from the 60's about right now).
Whatever shift Russ Martin decides to take, (and many agree it will be mornings when they offer him a salary equal to Oprah's) what about some local name who happens to be a bit "over the edge" to team with Fast Eddie, who would be more of the anchor of the show. Russ and JD could do their local "treehouse" act, and the other drive time would be two other names we know instead of some piped in crap who couldn't find Dealey Plaza with a tour guide. Yes, I know, Coyle has been a music jock, but so was Russ. JD too. They sit down every day with opinions and it works. Two other local guys who have been around a long time just might work too. Ridiculous? Maybe. But just listen around the dial for a few minutes. Need I say more? And if it WERE possible, who would be the other guy? Just a few thoughts here that's all...

I hadn't thought about what to do with the 3-7 slot. Maybe team Eddie with Kevin McCarthy? Not that Kev's edgy or over-the-top, but at least he's local (and jobless right now.) But I don't think Eddie's the guy to team with him; you'd need a Gen-X'er to bring in the younger audience and teach the "old dog" some of the lingo and bring that edginess to the show (i.e. the "Jagger" to Kev's "Dr. Judy.") Honestly, I expect Gavin and Company to go with a syndie show for that slot, to help keep costs down with Russ's potential new drag on the salary cap there. Or, worse yet, they'll "promote" one of the existing shows to the 3-7 (I can only guess whose.)

There was a time that Humble Billy Hayes did some fairly compelling talk radio. Have those days long passed?

I agree with you that Gavin will have to syndicate the 3-7 slot when the RMS goes to mornings.

I don't think that there is anyone locally who can grab the afternoons and run with it...

... however...

... I think that whoever DOES take over the afternoon slot at KLLI will be getting a lot of RMS leftovers. I mean, thousands of people already arrange to listen to the radio in the afternoon for Russ Martin. They are probably going to want to hear the new guy, and will probably do little to change their routine. I think it would be a full book before the ratings start declining...

I don't think that Fast Eddie is ready for afternoon talk, though... No offense meant, Eddie...<P ID="signature">______________

Fire P, hire K for afternoons. Then you'd have Fast and Loose :)

I know that the issue of iron clad non-competes would make this nearly impossible, but pairing the iconoclastic Gor-Don Keith with either Snake or Big Dick could prove interesting.
