Legendary R&B Artist King Floyd Dies
The platinum-selling R&B and pop singer-songwriter suffered a massive stroke on March 6 and died in a California hospital. He was 61.
Born in New Orleans in 1945, King began singing on street corners as a teen. After being discharged from the Army, he traveled to New York and then Los Angeles, where he struggled as a songwriter for several years before returning to New Orleans. King was best known for "Groove Me" — a song recorded in one take — that hit No. 1 on the R&B charts and No. 6 on the pop charts in 1971.
