Critical Hours Skip Today

I forgot to mention the time I was at Clearwater Beach in a cold December day to do some more daytime saltwater DXing and there was WLW Cincinnati strong and steady at 1 in the afternoon.

So right after that, I went to 1530 to see if WCKY was there and couldn't hear a thing.

The strange thing is, I had WLW on the car radio driving home from Clearwater and the signal got weaker and weaker as I got more inland and was gone well before I got to Tampa.

After that, I would listen in Tampa the same time every day to 700 and never heard a trace of WLW.

The proximity to the sea water had to have something to do with that very unexpected catch in Clearwater Beach.

I heard WHIC 1440 and WOYK 1350 during CH today. Best time for the 5 kW Class IIIs is 30-45 minutes before LS when a lot of stations are still on Day Facilities and Pattern. Also heard CIAO 530 with German language programming in the morning CH.

I experienced something similar a couple of Februarys ago at our beach location near Pensacola. Mid day with WSM weak but definitely listenable. Went up to 1510 for WLAC, but not a trace of it.
