Critique Southside Steve at Manuel's

Okay, so who wants to join me in critiquing Southside Steve's surprise appearance at the Radio-Info meet up at Manuel's Tavern? I'll go first.

Overall he did a fine job, although I had to wonder about the ripped-up bellbottom jeans he was wearing. Doesn't Cumulus have the money to buy him a real pair of pants? It looked like he was still hanging out at the Winger concert in 1988!

Ha...just kidding! You'll have to look long and hard to find anyone on RI who doesn't love SS Steve and the Regular Guys! Nice to meet you, Steve. And the rest of us wanna-be's and dorks had a lot of fun seeing each other again, too.
 
Besides Southside Steve and us wannabes and dorks, Cumulus showed up in a big way with market manager Gary Lewis and operations director Rob Roberts.

Umm ... no you wouldn't.

(Sorry, nothing against Steve personally there and props to him for attending the event and all, but it's not at all hard to find posters who would rather hear a dog bark than to ever hear TRG again. They're called the ones with taste ;) )

Hey you can't say anything bad about Southside Steve. For me he's one of the good guys and friend. I wish I could have been there.

Rob Roberts and Gary Lewis were straight-up classy to come to our party. And I agree, it's impossible not to like Southside Steve.

HUGE props to Roddy Freeman for putting this thing together! Thank you Roddy!

Let's not wait so long before we all get together again. Good to see everyone.
 
I personally had a great time as the lone taco at the sausage party! ;D Everyone was so nice and ,my God, you all know so much about ATL radio, it's insane. Walking into the room and having SSS put a mic in my face was interesting, especially since I didn't know him from the Pope! It was a genuine pleasure to hang with you boys.
I made new friends, got a free tequila shot, met Rodney "Hey" Ho, AND saw a penis!! Haven't had that kind of a Friday night since college! WOOT!! :-*
 
And I agree, it's impossible not to like Southside Steve.

We were all familiar with Southside Steve's hilarity on the air. But for those of us who hadn't met him, we saw that he's a really good guy in the real world.

For readjusting their 2 stations so that they would get better ratings on both? Yea, those guys are dumb. :D
 
I just wish I could have gone, but I was out of town - perhaps another gathering can be thrown in a month or two, as i'd love to show up!

I realize he was there to get audio, but otherwise Manuel's would be the absolute last place I'd expect to see SSS. A policy wonk he ain't!

For readjusting their 2 stations so that they would get better ratings on both? Yea, those guys are dumb. :D

i never heard killing a whole station calld readjust before.

did any1 ask them about the 99x events they said would still go on or if they ever plan to finish the 99x website?

I did. Our intrepid reporter was too busy wondering why Calandro was wearing a kilt.

Gary Lewis explained that the trad. 99X events (BDO, Chinese New Year, Sinners Ball, Unplugged in the Park etc) are so established and since 99X.com is a brand that Cumulus is continuing, there is no reason to stop them. In addition, 99X.com will be something that will continue. Lewis feels that the Internet is the way to go with this format.

On a side note, I give Gary and Rob Roberts mad props for showing up to our little soirée. They both suffered a few slings and arrows from the collected masses (including from yours truly). Of course, Roberts did provide tequila shots to ease the pain of having 99X go off the air. I think Roberts said he would buy a shot for every former and 99X listener at any time; any place. All you have to do is say this phrase, "I'm ____________and I am/was/will always will be 99X."

No one mentioned that Mike Wheeler was there too.
 
Inside your head, give it a rest. 99x should have been taken to the pastures years ago. Instead of posting on here so much, use that time to help save the 12 bucks a month to get XM or Sirius to get your fill of Alternative Rock.
 
Probably a bit late to ask this, but is anyone planning to tape tomorrow's show to hear if any of us made it on the air? I could try, but even 96 Rock comes in kinda weak indoors here.

Man, I would've LOVED to be there! But, alas, I couldn't secure child care and, since I'm not related to Britney Spears, I wasn't bringing my 2 year old (it's too early to contaminate his brain with the radio biz, but, unfortunately he already loves talking on the mic). Sounded like fun, and great networking, nonetheless.
 
Hey there ATL Board/RIFO guys!

Give us a little more notice and some more local radio folks would probably attend your next gathering! Manuels's is a great location!! I look forward to hoisting a beer with you guys soon!!!!

P.S. Are we not one of the most active "local/regional" boards on this site??
