Talk about the Bay Area morning shows ! Let's hear some real (construction) critiques of our Bay Area morning shows!

Sara & No Name 97.3
Chuy In The Morning 106.1
Don Bleu
Kevin Brown
Renel In the Morning
Adam Corolla
Baltazar & Maria
Live 105...etc

KFOG is about the only morning show I can listen to around here. They don't treat the audience like we're stupid, but they do realize that it's a show and they keep it entertaining. Everything else I hear is just the typical morning show by the numbers stuff. The woman who does mornings on KQKE is actually really good but I can't deal with hardcore political stuff first thing in the morning.

The T-Man is clearly the most talented radio host in the Bay.
His KYLD morning show is by far the most entertaining and compelling program that broadcasts here.

I haven't any real critiques on other morning shows at this time because I find most of them unlistenable and tuned them out long before I could pinpoint any specific flaws.

Just an opinion from a fan whose bias leans CHR.

or is an obvious plant from the 949 camp. and i dont even dislike tman.. lol

terrible t aka t-mouth aka any NON CC GM's best friend is driving kyld into the ground... i think that baltazar and sonia have huge potential over at movin... they are very vibey and seem to really have locked into the bay area vibe...i heard them talking about american idol, and tyra banks being fat...DIALED IN - as long as KYLD continues to get programmed from san antonio with all these "PIPED" in losers they will remain the worst sounding station in a major market...maybe even the whole format...

Well RC, unless the ground is up the ratings wouldn't support your theory. KYLD seems to be on fire at present time. They have made some gutsy moves that are paying great dividends thus far. As a programmer I can't help but be a tad envious while continuing to keep close tabs on the situation.

Not chosing one side or the other in the Tman/KYLD argument but a closer look on the morning show's numbers actually show a DIP and KYLD's "on fire" ranking is due (i would say mostly) because such competitors as KMEL and LIVE 105 took such a hit in THEIR ratings. Its not so much as KYLD passed it's competitors but the competitors' numbers went down further than KYLD's did. But down they DID go.

and PS, Tyra IS fat, but mostly in the forehead area!

The Ear is out!

Woody, Tony, And Ravey on Live 105 are light years above all the other morning shows in the bay area. They sound natural and like what you'd expect from a major market morning show. (Though I still think Rob, Arnie, and Dawn in Sacramento are slightly better).

Don Blue sounds as canned and cookie cutter as the Star Format itself. Gene & Julie were also awful on Star. You can't have a good morning show on such a tight and restrictive format like Star. Don does the best he can with what he has to work with.

I've never liked Sarah and Vinnie or Sarah and NoName. They are almost too "bay area" for my tastes...which is probably a good thing for the ratings. But they just bore me. I've rarely heard a bit that kept my interest.

Jack Kulp on KOIT also sounds like a large market AC morning show. He sounds polished and has a good voice.

Renel is good, but Lee Baby Sims was so much better.

Baltazar and Maria - Each might be okay individually but there's absolutely no chemistry whatsoever, and I don't think there ever will be. Also, the format is so staged and phony that it's difficult for them to be themselves. Similar to Star 101.3 in that sense.

KFOG sounds good in the morning. Not great, but listenable. I think the problem I have with it is the guy has done this show day after day for so many years, that the "spark" is missing.

Adam Carolla wasn't meant to be a morning host. He should have stayed on Loveline. The show lacks any form of chemistry. Adam's listeners aren't awake at 8 AM. They're awake at 11 PM - when he did well on Loveline.

All in all, the morning shows here are pretty poor. But it's not the DJs fault. It's the fault of over-research and cookie-cutter formats. All the talented and creative jocks finally gave up. The ones that are left are only on the air a) for the money; or b) because they've been doing it for so long and have no other options for work.

I had to stop after this sentence. Someday I hope to have the nerve to read the rest of this post.
