Crock Format ?

Eh. Not impressed with what I heard. They had a stab that was simply "Bite me," which I'm guessing was some kind of bad crocodile joke? ::) But hey, at least it's an attempt at something different...from a creative standpoint you've got to give 'em credit for that.

It's a crock, though. The name fits. Not all country music will fit with rock, and vice versa. If a format switch is in the cards for Eagle, look for it to be similar to their "Southern Fried Fridays."

Terre Haute’s “Crock” now has the advantage of an established personality from a cross-town 50kw Country market-leader, but is having some trouble in the ARB department. It sounds good, and has an interesting “shtick”. It peaked – but like Oldies, may be an “Oh WOW” that went south.

Back in the 80's, a friend told me he was putting together a "new" format that combined country and rap.

And, yes, he called it "crap". :D

Trailer park/white trash focused format WILL handle rock slip-ins. I mean....can you really play "Freebird" too many times??
If you want cracker males 18-54 then a mix of short-hair growin' country with CORRECT rock picks would work. But this is a shrinking demo if you subtract:
1. Christian crackers
2. Gay crackers
3. Crackers with incomes greater than $50K
4. Crackers with motorcycles OTHER THAN Harleys.
None of these folks will be P1's.....of course we write off practically all female listening....12-18 night listening will be non existant.

A friend of mine did that as a joke once. Called it "Hick N Hip"

In the South, we like our Country, and we like our Classic Rock........ but the two mixed together?

Check out this small station in Indiana, and tell us if it will work in the ATL. ;)

Eagle, maybe?

Not the Eagle but maybe the Bull. American Pie, why in the hell would they play this? The Bull is Atlanta's answer to crock927

Punk Country!
It's called Cowpunk
I bet WREK or WRAS has a show devoted to it.
The bands Assjack (Hank Williams III), Drive-By Truckers, and Bad Livers are perfect examples.

WRAS - 88.5FM - Monday nights from 8 to 10pm
Psychobilly Freakout
I play rockabilly, psychobilly, surf, garage, cowpunk, greaser, and a tiny bit of county. Elvis, Supersuckers, Mojo Nixon, Social Distortion, Dick Dale, Hank 3, Stray Cats, Link Wray, etc.

I leave most of the county to the Cowtip people Tuesday nights. We also have an old school punk show Fridays from 4 to 6pm.

Tune in tonight to check it out. I'm airing an interview with a local band during the first hour, but the rest of the show is my normal format.

/shameless self promotion because you mentioned it

Charlotte tried a similar thing back in 1990. "Thunder 96.9, High Octane Country" had a mix of Georgia Satellites, Buffett, Hank, etc. It was a great concept but it didn't fly. Some recent research has found that country fans were open to listening to rock but rock fans wern't to crazy about the county, hence the failed 'marriage'. 96.9 went back to mainstream country a few months later and never looked back. perfect format for the satellites though.
