Crossno leaving Cumulus Memphis

Word is that GSM for WXMX and WKIM Chuck Crossno is leaving at the end of the week. Crossno is going to Jonesboro, AR to become DOS for East Arkansas Broadcasters 36 station chain. He was able to move WXMX into the #1 local billing spot last year, and was reportedly the driving force in the switch to news-talk on WKIM. Everything I hear says he's a good guy that will be missed in the market.

I hope he has some good tires on his car. The stations are scattered in 4 about clusters. I only count 19 stations in unless Bobby has added some I am not aware of. Anyone know if the group has had anyone in this position in the past or is this a new position Bobby Caldwell created.

I seem to remember hearing Bobby has several stations that are under a different umbrella from East Arkansas Broadcasters. I'm thinking they're in the western part of the state around Mena and DeQueen. I wonder if he's going to be in charge of some of those, too?

I thought Jay Bunyard had the Mena and DeQueen stations. I don't see transfers for any of those. It's been sometime since I my chat with Bobby. He had not long before it taken over KAFN (now KOTN-FM) and KXFE. He only talked of the stations above. KERL was not on yet and he had not bought the stations in Jonesboro yet. He also has added KVLO since that conversation.

Either way that is a large group of stations. I bet he will have the tools and contacts to help the group with some National and Agency buys.

EAB with tools?
Ask the people at KFIN and KWHF about that.

My understanding is that they've been without any real sales management for some time. Chuck is a sharp guy who gets it...he had WREC billing over $2 million and Rock 103 performing when he was a Clear Channel, and helped bury them in the last yeart and a half at Citadel-Cumulus. When I talked with him today, he's eager to get back to "real radio" and get them going. He did run the Arkansas Radio Network in the mid 80's, as well as managing the NBC affiliate in Fayetteville for a few years...I think he'll do well with whatever he's handed.

Chuck is a very street smart guy and will do very well. I wish Chuck all the best going over to EAB.
