Crossroads fires managers again

Bill Cook is out as the manager of the Crossroads stations. Who is the new manager and what changes have been made as a result?

Is the cluster really going to replace any staff who quits? New staff costs money.

Has he left the building, or is back into sales? News down the pike hasn't been good and with the board reporting to the bank each month leads me to believe that Julie Hendricks, and former co-owner Mike Petersen's departures were simply to get out before the ship sinks. Party Marty, get your life jacket on!

Heard today that Tom Estes was let go and hired someone who managed the Hilton in Indianapolis. This person is in their early to mid 20's. Anyone know who it is?

This is kinda like watching the poor fish out of water flop around on the ground.... you wonder when will the poor thing just die.... really kind of uncomfortable for those who are spectators :-\

Sounds like they're "at a crossroad"...

I guess Estes is still there and the new manager, she's the former manager from the the Hilton in Terre Haute. They should drop all air staff and go totally to dial global.

Is this your first radio job? Didn't you also work at the Hilton?

sure sounds like his first radio job....( I can talk into a mic and yell over a record intro therefore I are a DJ ! ;D ) I have heard high school stations that had better on air people. In fairness, he can't learn when they have no one to teach them. What does a car dealer and someone who cleans hotel rooms know about radio. I just don't see how they pay the light bill on the BOW transmitter, let alone everything else.

Seriously, am I reading this right? This company just hired a motel manager to run their radio station cluster?! Is that right?? ???

The buzz in town is that Tom Estes is still running things. His brother has a car dealership in Indy. This is his first experience in radio. Afternoon drive on their 50k stick wbow is so bad it make your ears bleed.

Slow afternoon over at Radio Disney mouseman?

hoosier45guy, while you might think I'm wasting time here [although I'm not sure what that makes you, who has time to criticize] it concerns me anytime our industry's credibility is eroded just a bit more when an owner elects to hire a MOTEL MANAGER to run their radio stations. However, maybe you are simply better at sitting on the sidelines and lobbing sarcasm while not being in the game [much] -
And actually business is VERY good, maybe the best growth percentages in the market. If you're paying much attention, our profile in the market is very high. I think we're staying busy, but thanks for asking.

I see no interest in whether they are busy only whether they hired a hotel manager to run things...

Agreed.

Are we as an industry so void of talent, so void of experience, so void of knowledgable, business saavy management candidates that an owner has to hire a Motel Manager?

"Ah, room service? Can I get an extra blanket? When is the complimentary breakfast served? How like is the indoor pool open?" Really???

And herein lies the problem with this industry. The thought that anyone can be an air talent or a program director or a general manager. It speaks volumes about what senior management thinks of those who have made this their career.

If you say so Jim. Radio Disney doesn't show up in any Media Monitors or Miller Kaplan reports.

hmmm - if that's true [even though its not the point of this discussion] I'd say that's pretty smart [not reporting]. He's holding his business close to the vest and it's really no one else's business.

By the way hoosier45, I'd say Mouseman's been pretty open and honest about who/what he's about - it's you who seems to be hiding behind your posting name taking your shots. You want anyone to take your criticisms seriously, tell us who you are/what you're about/why you have any credibility? Otherwise, make a point on subject and keep your personal jabs of other posters to yourself.

Drucifer - you are right on point! Corporate management is looking at balance sheets, and plugging warm bodies into positions - but an account doesn't know why a motel manager is any different from any other "manager" - just cheaper. And why do we need local PDs? Isn't that why we have one Corporate PD to do PD stuff - one salary. Balance sheet looks better that way. CC just did that - fired three regional guys, then promoted three market GMs to do their jobs, plus keep their markets. Balance sheets just got much better - give that account a bonus!
