Crosswords and Temptation renewed

From what I'm seeing at GSN's website, "Merv
Griffin's Crosswords" and "Temptation" have been
renewed for the 2008-09 season. This is something
of a surprise; "Crosswords" has been averaging a 0.8
rating; "Temptation," a 0.6 (the lowest-rated game
show). "Temptation" was on the fence, but apparently
the announcement of the renewal came today.

I think a lot of people were counting on a daytime version
of "Deal Or No Deal" to replace "Crosswords" on the NBC
o&os. Wonder what the status of DOND is now?

DOND is a definite go, and probably will get preferential time periods vis a vis Crosswords, on the stations that carry both. Crosswords may be a cheap, low-risk safety net...i.e., buried in the middle of the night...in some cases. Another strategy would be to dump a second run of Crosswords for those that have it, and use Deal as a lead in to see if that gooses Crosswords' ratings.

As far as I know, plans were to continue selling Family Feud next season as well, but I wonder if the market can support that many games at this point (despite the 4,832 identical court shows that seem to coexist). If I were building a schedule, I'd rather pair Deal with Millionaire as my first choice (assuming I had a one hour block to fill), with Feud as a second choice and with Crosswords as a third choice.

As for Temptation...well, home shopping thrives in the middle of the night, so maybe the stations burying it there are on to something.
