CRTC Radio Amendments, increase CanCon for Campus/Community

http://www.crtc.gc.ca/eng/archive/2011/2011-173.htm

amendments to simplify the approach to licensing campus and community stations, including eliminating the distinction between Type A and Type B community stations;

amendments to incorporate new programming requirements, including revisions to content categories and subcategories and changes to Canadian content requirements; and

amendments to implement the new approach to funding campus and community radio.

http://www.crtc.gc.ca/eng/archive/2011/2011-174.htm

The Commission calls for comments on:

increasing the minimum level of Canadian musical selections that campus and community radio stations must play; and

whether to impose requirements on such stations related to the involvement of volunteers in station operations and in the production of programming.

Two of my main concerns are the increase in CanCon for Community stations, and seeking to regulate "volunteers".. most programming on Campus/Community stations is done by volunteers anyway, is it not? Stop trying to regulate more!!

I will definitely be submitting an intervention/comment.

What are your thoughts?

I have to agree, the Can Con is fine the way it is, and perhaps should be cut back to the 30% it once was!

As far as wages go, I'm not sure about CIUT or CKLN, but there's a community radio station in Scarborough Ontario operating currently as an internet station. (they hope to have a low power FM license soon)

They are hiring new staff right now.

Here's the Station: http://fusionradio.ca/
(Fusion radio is the University of Toronto Scarborough campus radio station)

Here's who gets paid what:

*Marketing Manager* (Part-time)

*Program Director* (Part-time)
