Cruise Into A War Zone With NPR Hosts

Luxury line Regent Seven Seas is hosting another cruise chock full of personalities from National Public Radio and the Public Broadcasting System.

NPR keeps talking about attracting younger listeners. But this is a practice long associated with Standards or Nostalgia station personalities, formats drawing a mostly pre-boomer, retiree audience. Not good if public radio sponsors (underwriters) want to reach the money demos (and who doesn't?).

The big difference is this cruise is to a current war zone.
 
Is this like those "Citizens of the World" trips that WBUR used to do? These aren't about attracting an audience, they're about rewarding VIP's. A.K.A. encouraging a comparatively small group of big donors to give even bigger. Those trips often are quite effective at that. Not always, but often.

(note: I'm aware that WBUR's COTW trips actually were frequently break-even propositions at best, but they did succeed at buttering up some major donors. And I know of several other stations that have done similar trips and had them be very financially successful.)
