Crusin 94.9 in NWA

i was wonering if anyone has checked out the latest format change for Cumulus. "The New Cruisin 94.9". What is everyone take on it? The muisc, the imaging, and do you think it will make it in this area. Responses?....................

It's based on KRUZ 103.3 out in Cali, a station that's been a pretty adventurous and diverse Hot AC that steps outside of some of the playlist confines the format often suffers from. It'll be interesting to see how well it's implemented in NW AR.

When I first saw the new name of the station, "Crusin", my first impression is that it flipped to an 60/70s based oldies station. Especially since there is a hole for that format in this market.

I was pleasantly surprised to tune in to hear what seems to be an adult leaning modern rock/AAA/Modern AC hybrid. I was just thinking a few days ago about how it would be nice to have a station like this, but never thought anyone around here would be adventurousome enough to try.

It is sounds like they are targeting toward the older demos of those who also like listen to "104.9 The X". As much as I like to hear modern rock, but as a male now in my mid 30s, The X was getting to "active" and loud for me, especially during nights. About the only time, I regularly listen to The X is hear Jackson's Lost X Lunch.

Now that Cumulus has a station like this, will they take "98.3 The Keg" back to more a classic rock only station again more in line with The Eagle? I am glad Cumulus is finally pulling the plug on Y94.9 and trying something new.

In short, I have a new favorite station for music around here. Hope it lasts, but I am afraid it might be too "hip for the room" in NWA.

Here is a sample 40 minutes:

Kings Of Leon "Radioactive"
Talking Heads "Take Me To The River"
Phoenix "Lizstomania"
Blues Traveler "Hook"
Sick Puppies "Maybe"
Ray LaMontagne "The Best Thing"
Paul Simon "Diamonds On The Soul Of Her Shoes"
Mumford & Sons "Little Lion Man"
Death Cab Cutie "Soul Meets Body"
Live "Lightning Crashes"

You are exactly right. KRUZ/Santa Barbara plays the exact songs in order. Just a couple of hours later. What KYNF plays at 6:40pm Central Time is what KRUZ plays 6:40pm Pacific Time:

I do like the format. I used to listen to the X before the calls were even KXNA and while I do appreciate Lost X Lunch, I haven't been as overall into the music in quite some time. This could be a nice alternative for adults who want something a bit more alternative, but not "too weird." It has a decent hip factor but still is pretty accessible. I do wonder what's going to adjust at 98.3 - they can't both tread into AAA territory and be effective.

98.3 has gone more Classic Rock now to adjust for 94.9. I don't know why someone does not put a good Oldies or Classic Hit station. I think one would do well.
