Crusin 950 is here

KIMN-AM lives!

Too bad they didn't (or can't) use those calls. Does Mix use those call other than their legal ID?

wow...guess we found the 2 people that care about another oldies station....on am no less.
another superb example of why Denver radio blows harder than the wind T Boone Pickens (sp?) wants to harness. next? maybe NRC will simulcast Jack...oh....wait.....

??? Maybe they can snag that strange creature of the airwaves from KLZ 560 Da Boogerman... ;) .no wait just give Irv and Joe an old box of mid 60's 45's and lock them in the studio for 2 hours everyday..... ;D

No, frankly I really don't care. I do respect old call letters on the AM band that were once very important.

Well I like it.
But I will never understand the constant drum beat of the KIMN call letters belong at 950. Nobody outside the radio community cares or knows that they were on 950. Drop the chicken into the middle of a crowd and it will probably get eaten.
Calls don't make the station the people do. Get over it.

Nothing to get over. I guess you are saying brand names don't matter. That's a new theory.

Yeah right the Call Letters don;t make the station? Humm I don't know what you are thinking about that, but I beg the differ.. Everyone knew what K I M N was back in the 60's - the 80's! If you talk to people who was a kid back then and ask if they remember a station called KIMN I am sure they well be able to tell you allot about that station and the memories! You don't think WCBS went back to the oldies format after being Jack and not having people not remember anything about WCBS from the past do you? That is the same thing about 950. Yeah the calls letters do make a difference and if you did drop the Chicken in the middle of the crowd people would shake that chicken's hand becasue they would remember that represented what KIMN was back in the days! I am glad that LFM made 950 into a true oldies station!

That is lost and gone from the time of radio.. and they use Old Jingles (which I think is neat) and making 950 sound like no other station around in colorado. I just hope they can find the right personalites to fit this new format.

KIMN am was a great station BECAUSE of the people on it and the the music they played not because they had call letters. Boss jocks and Beatles every 35 minutes, who cares what they called it. Calls DON'T make the station the people do. You can't recreate history here "dude" but you can make a new future.

One problem. KIMN is owned by CBS Radio (At least at the moment) KRWZ is owned by Lincoln Financial. Big difference.

That said, could LF have approached CBS about either buying Mix 100 or the KIMN calls? Maybe. But what would they have to gain by that when THEIR OWN Denver cluster is up for sale too?

THAT said, I'd look for someone (I'm thinking Citadel) to swoop in and buy BOTH clusters and move the "Crusin" format to KXKL-HD2 in lieu of a more practical format. Just my opinion though....

My $.02 worth :D

Cheers :D

Do your homework. He's at CBS-Owned (At least for now) KXKL (And it doesn't look like he'll leaving that post anytime soon either).

Cheers :D

Oh who knows, if Da Boogieman can swing some kind of deal to where they would allow him to play his own tunes of the 50 and 60's and bring back his orignal show then he just might. Becasue on KXKL he can't play his own music it has to be their music and he has no room to modify his show one bit. Sure he can do a speical show on the weekends but on the wkdays he can't.

I never post here, but I have to say the station sounds great. Good for folks at Crusin for putting on live talent and not letting the freq go to hell.

No they are not streaming yet in fact their website is just a run of the mill website.. Now are you asking for their web address or the actuall address? You can easily look it up yourself by going to Dexknows.com and typing in the like KYGO or KIMN and it would show u the address in denver but the actuall web page is:

http://www.cruisinoldies950.com/

so there ya go :)

I knew that, I just got nostalgic for the K-Love your oldies format Da Boogie had on 1120? and then on the great KLZ 560. Crawford pulled the rug and switch just as the stations got decent for oldies....

And whoever takes over AM 950 once LF sells their Denver cluster will no doubt pull the plug on it also unless it pulls in an audience anywhere close to that of Entercomm-owned KEZW (You can bet they'll be watching to see how well Crusin' fares since much of KEZW's core audience were bee-boppin' teenagers themselves back in the days of 1950s Rock & Roll).

If Crusin doesn't succeed, look for it to go All-News (e.g. WINS-style) as that's the only format that Denver doesn't have in it's truest sense (The closest we have is NPR affiliate KCFR-AM 1340) and hasn't been tried commercially here since KDEN resided on the same frequency (It was an NBC affiliate until KNUS took that over).

I hate to say it, but ENJOY IT WHILE YOU CAN because something tells me it won't last long.

Just my opinion...

Cheers :)

I wish someone would do all news in Denver -- the only format on AM that really hasn't been tried. But it's the most expensive format in all of radio.

Has a great cume. Has a lousy TSL. Denver, as a market, may just BARELY be big enough to justify that kind of a heavy turnover format.

I've done more than one all news station, though not in LA. (Did NYC and Chicago). The number of newsroom personnel ALONE was larger than most entire consolidated staffs in Denver -- certainly more than, say, all the people that work at Entercom.

That was just on-air and on-air support, like writers and editors.

Add to that sales people, traffic, admin, and more, and you'd have a staff as big as KUSA. Granted, all-news stations can run more commercials per hour than music or talk stations -- as much as 18 minutes , simply because the format makes it work -- but if you don't have a huge sales staff to sell that, you're running PSA's.

I hope we get all-news. Rumors have sprung up in the past about that format. Then, investors see the price tag and are told it won't be profitable for three years .. and they run for the hills.
