Crutchfield and HD

I could go back and research this, but how about a test of character. Will the person that claimed Crutchfield won't support HD anymore becoase of technical issues just admit they were wrong and come clean, please?

From the NAB techcheck- "In addition to the radios in the catalog, Crutchfield has twelve HD Radio home and tabletop models, and additional marine radio models, available on their Web site."

Or maybe I just dreamt that on a bad episode of Sliders. :)

Mike Wlaker is right. HD is NOT an avalance. More like a glacier. A very clw glacier. :)

That's great, Inspector. How many are being sold?

(That would be S-O-L-D. As opposed to "chipsets manufactured" and "SKU numbers" and other non-information purporting to be "HD receiver sales" we usually get from the IBOC camp.)

"Sold." And not returned by the purchaser?

Well I can't guarantee you'll sell them if you have them. But I can guarantee you WON'T sell them if you DON'T have them.

Are we to assume you think this is "The final nail in the HD coffin" because they are featuring radios at Crutchfield?

Nice change of subject, BTW.

No, I didn't say it's a "nail in the coffin of HD" (or anything like that) and certainly if Crutchfield is carrying the radios that isn't a bad thing. That's obvious from my response.

Your initial post suggested that Crutchfield saw merit in HD Radio because it lists a number of models on its website. And my point is: presumably, the company wants to sell them, not just list them as items for sale. And once sold, presumably Crutchfield would like them to STAY sold. I would argue that from anecdotal evidence amply see here and elsewhere, that hasn't been the case with HD. The sales have been meager and returns have been high. And that's being charitable.

I also point out how prying reliable actual receiver sales data out of iBiquity and the Alliance has been akin to trying to grab a porterhouse away from a pit bull. If the sales figures were good or even "anything but an embarassment" HD's promoters would be gladly providing this information - not to say, shouting it from every street corner.

The constant references to irrelevant "data" on HD receiver sales like "chipsets sold" and "distinct SKU numbers" avoids the salient point. It's kinda like that blind date your roommate fixed you up with in college:

"What does she look like?"

"You're gonna have a great time. What a terrific personality!"

"Yeah, but what does she look like?"

"Funny! What a great sense of humor! You're gonna laugh, laugh....laugh your socks off! She's a hoot!"

"Is she pretty?"

"And.....DANCE! Man, can this girl dance!!"

.........et cetera......
