CSI Miami Now Airing On American Movie Classics

I don't know why a television show is airing on a movie channel? Maybe they are following in the foot steps of MTV/VH-1/CMT? Either way, I think its lame...

Actually AMC is cable's biggest success story. From NEw York Magazine:

Such is the status AMC commands in today’s television universe. Just four short years after the one-two punch of Mad Men and Breaking Bad, AMC is the fastest-rising network in America. From 2008 to 2010, Mad Men won three Outstanding Drama Emmys in a row, while Breaking Bad’s Bryan Cranston took three concurrent Outstanding Lead Actors. AMC characters have inspired essays in The New York Review of Books and Funny or Die parodies. Last year, the network debuted its biggest hit to date, the zombiefest known as The Walking Dead. The season-one finale was seen by 6million people; the show’s 18–49 audience that season was the largest for a drama in basic-cable history. Not network numbers, not HBO numbers, but pretty stunning for a channel that was barely running original programming five years ago.

I was referring to its fall from being the most popular non-premium movie channel (no ads) to one that now cut up feature films for ads then added other than movies to its schedule and is now nothing more than a horror TV movie service.

AMC was one of the reasons I initially got cable years ago and one of the biggest reasons I got rid of it several years ago. If I had wanted to watch weird TV shows I could have watched Fox for free.

My dad use to watch AMC none-stop back when it aired all B&W movies. While I agree their movie presentation is awful now, I would hardly call their fall one of the worst. They now have great scripted dramas. They could've went the route of Discovery networks, History channel, A&E, ect & filled their programing up with reality programs.

Land, Turner classic movies is still what AMC was during its old days.

And from a business standpoint, it's been highly successful.

So are 20% APRs on credit cards and for profit universities. Not necessarily best for the consumer.

In trueness, AMC is not really advertised as 'American Movie Classics' like how the thread is titled and in the OP message.

It is essentially another basic cable network, like TBS, USA and FX, all just owned by a different companies. The last remnant of that category where AMC used to fall in is TCM however.

If one really wants to see movies, get a Netflix subscription or a Starz!/Encore subscription. The Encore channels are still pretty much movies. AMC, FMC etc. were really just bonus channels with commercial supported cable networks.

Look at CNN, Fox, and MSNBC they are basically Syndicated Talk Radio or outright Propaganda with Pictures. TLC used to be the Learning Channel but its really MTV or E with Reality shows with Babies in it.

But at least TLC doesn't do any of that "Jersey Shore" crap. And while I do enjoy some of TLC's programs (such as Cake Boss and the Next Great Baker), I tend to stay away from shows such as "19 Kids and Counting".

And irrelevant. Were I a shareholder, I would expect the best return on my investment.

And I wouldn't bet on even TCM in its current form holding up through the years.

At least they still report the news (Even though it's not 24/7 & is mainly political spin talk) which is A LOT for what can be said for TLC as.....
TLC used to be the Learning Channel but its really MTV or E with Reality shows with Babies in it.
And female cops catching bad guys. What are we supposed to learn from THAT ??

Cheers ;D
