CSN translator on 107.3...

I know i'm probably in the wrong here, but i believe something really needs to be done about commercial radio too. I dont fault KXXK in Aberdeen, they are perfectly in range to use the 95.3 freqency. However, I truly believe that KXL 101.1 needs to power their transmitter down. 101.1 is chock full of different signals already, KGHO is not helping by broadcasting on that channel either. However KXL is TOO much of a blowtorch. Driving north near Everett a few months ago, I was picking up KXL without a sign of CFMI, which I simply do not understand. I think KXL needs to turn that 100kw torch down a little, or change or make their transmitter more directional. Again, I may be biased as I would like to pick up CFMI on my car radio, but I dont see why a Portland news station has to be that powerful.

Well, KGHO is trying to use the same frequency in Olympia. Driving through that area a little while ago, about 10 miles from the KGHO antenna, KXL took over.

As I recall, KUFO 101.1 did not have nearly the same coverage as KXL does now because they used a stereo signal.

Here in the Portland area they are sticking in translators left and right. When there is ducting it's almost impossible to hear Seattle anymore.

I haven't had a problem hearing 101.1 whether it was KLLB, KRCK KUFO or current, it always has had a good path up I-5. KGHO seems to change freq so much that I agree with some of the owners here that they are playing fast and loose with the allocation that it isn't a level field in which to do business. They should buy a couple of under-performing class whatever stations and find a more permanent home on the dial. The so called community or LP issue is a mess and we have to thank the previous incarnations of the candy commission with the exception of Copps and Adlestein IMO.

And staying somewhat on topic, I have received KFFM in some locations around Tumwater Haven't tried it lately.

With KXL being so powerful in Portland, KGHO really should vacate that frequency. I can complain all I want about KXL being too powerful, but the reality is, KXL's coverage map extends into Lewis County. That would make KGHO technically too close.

KFFM can be heard on US-101 just west of Olympia for a few miles. Go into Shelton and you can hear KEGX 106.5 and 92.9 the Bull from Yakima.
