CT and Hurricane Gloria- September 27, 1985

On Friday, September 27, 1985, Connecticut received a direct hit by Hurricane Gloria (as a category 1), the last time such a storm hit this area head on. How did Connecticut TV stations handle the approaching storm and aftermath (if they were on the air)? I was living in southern Maine at that time. We only had Gloria as a tropical storm and lost our power that night.

On a side note, I remember that night well because me and my brother were anticipating the second season premiere of NBC's "Miami Vice" which didn't air again until a few months later. :(

I was a student at MIT and watched the Boston station's go wall-to-wall on Gloria. I remember taping my windows as was the custom at the time. As usual, Shelby Scott of WBZ was out and about in the hurricane. IIRC, WBZ and WCVB both did an excellent job with Liz and Jack and Natalie and Chet, respectively.

Re: Boston and Hurricane Gloria- September 27, 1985

It can be argued that the job WBZ-4 and WCVB-5 did with their live nonstop (for about fourteen hours, IIRC, 5 A.M.-7 P.M. that day) coverage of Hurricane Gloria (and to a lesser extent, the then-WNEV-7) may have been the "Finest Hour" in the history of Boston television.
