CT Radio No Man's Land...

it's 94.9, just about anywhere you go within 15-20 miles of Meriden's tower park and 94.9 is nothing but hash and trash from most of the stations up there. Before someone tries to blame the radio in my car, know this, every radio in every car I've had was the same, every portable I've used is similar, even the systems I have at home have the same problem. Has anyone else noticed this?

(I had my mother in the car this weekend and she wanted to listen to WMAS 94.7 and we were in Meriden getting lots of splash from the noise at 94.9)

Maybe you need to try 94.9 in a Humvee or big ole Buick! Yea..there's something about that signal. 106.9 WPYX in Albany has the same crappy signal sometimes and no one seems to know why. PT'mers playing with the processing? Naww. WAQY sounds fantastic on any radio. Maybe they're using an Optima or something.

Maybe I didn't explain it properly, on 94.9 there is an overload that seems to be coming from most (if not all) of the stations located at the mountain tower site in Meriden (I think the only station I didn't hear last time I checked was WKSS and that was last night in New Britain, the rest were there and WKSS was part of the noise in the past). It seems to be a combo of signals, and very strong too. Would this be a factor of adding up the freqnecies and dividing by number of stations to get a harmonic or something along that line?

Also, I doubt it's the radio, I get this on my communications rig at home, and I get it in each car I've had for a few years now.

I should have done that math...

Ok, I added all the stations up on the mountain together and then divided them by number of stations (the only thing that messes up the equation is I forget if 102.9 is up there and I don't know if the other services factor into this or how to add them in)

If you add up 90.5, 91.9, 92.5, 93.7, 95.7, and 105.9 and then divide by 6 you get 95.03 which is very close to 94.9, and where a digital (not HD) radio would get it, but like I said, there's much more up there than just FM broadcasting.

I also get that mess here in New Britain's south end on both my Sony Walkman and on my home stereo, which is more sensitive than the Walkman. While at Westfield Shoppingtown (Meriden Mall), I'll not only get that overload, but a tiny bit of WKCI-FM 101.3 (KC-101) on a different dial poisiton as well. (I never get the WKCI-FM interference here.)

I'm told that in New London, WKCI is actually blocked by splatter from WCNI and in most areas is inaudible, but then again, this is second-hand info (from a very good source though)
