Do some people not realize that it's 2006, and station websites are a very important part of your overall product?

The Nassau UV stations don't appear to have updated their websites in a while. The on-air lineups and promotions definitely don't match up with what's on the sites.

And if you thought Nassau was bad... feast your eyes on this gem further up 91 a ways...

Seems to me Burke Mountain was "saved" quite a few years ago.

Ouch!

Yes, maybe Mom & Pop Magic 97.7 should update their site, which was most likely born from a trade deal a few years back. But picking on them makes you look foolish, not them.

As for websites in general: if they don't make your station any money, why even have one? Energy could very well be better spent on making your on-air product better.

The things that will draw people to a website are:
  • Updated Weather
  • Audio Streaming
  • Programming Schedules
  • Air Staff Contact/Interaction Page
  • Public Announcements, Event Listings, public service things of that nature that get neglected on-air...

If a station website has less than three of those elements, there's no reason to even waste time promoting it on the air. The primary reason to have a station website is for use as a sales tool. Imaging is secondary.

Clear Channel basically ignores their website's in the Bangor, Maine market as well. Very little local content...all stations use the same, cookie-cutter templates with ads taking up most of the space.
It pretty much reflects the on-air peformance of "most" of their jocks. The Mike and Mike show and Maine in the morning are the only shows that seem to stand out and do well for them. Everything else is poorly voice-tracked.
