Cuba AM after the protests

It can't "not" jam it unless it's going to shut off 34 stations carrying Radio Rebelde. I've not heard of that happening
Yeah. Cuba is 800 miles wide, and it takes several dozen transmitters to fully jam Martí, which has the theoretical equivalant of about 300,000 watts in a roughly 120° lobe aimed at Cuba. And those transmitters in Cuba are not traditional noise-generating jammers, they are programmed with one of the Communist Party's national networks.

Shortwave.. shortwave.
I'm sure that is part of the reasoning, since baseball is the national sport of Cuba. Soccer never took hold in PR, the Dominican Republic or Cuba.

I'd never heard that! It would seem illogical to promote an anti-Castro, anti-Communist station even for a few hours.

Cuba's jamming of SW is usually jet engine white noise or some electronic buzzing and i'm almost positive I've heard Marti in the clear when "beisbol" is on the SW outlets. Theyre not promoting it so much as letting people listen to it, i guess

I'm not sure why Cuba cares about SW. Shortwave radios have been restricted there for some time, maybe 4 to 5 decades, to prevent listening to "decadent" broadcasts from capitalist nations. Even getting a ham license (for the few who can afford the equipment) is very difficult and highly monitored.

Key West may be in the edge of the null of Radio Marti, Their pattern is essentially about 120° to 150° wide from Marathon, aimed right at Cuba. So Key West would be in a lesser signal area. Marathon is 50 miles over salt water from Key West, so I'm guessing that the signal is still pretty strong there.
What I've been hearing on 1180 on the Key West SDR is definitely R. Marti. With an impressive signal. Rebelde barely audible underneath,

As regards another matter, R. Enciclopedia yesterday appeared to be missing from my usual go-to sites for it's stream. I finally found it by just Googling it on my iphone. But the stream acted like it was very unstable. Dropped out every minute or two.

Not sure if this was related or unrelated to the unfolding turmoil.

But at least the annoying hum I had long associated with the R. Enciclopedia stream was finally absent!

I use Radio Reloj to set my non-synchronized clocks;
their time pulses stand respectably against WWV and CHU.

As posted in another thread:

Wobbler back on 870 on the Key West SDR this evening. R. Reloj and what's left of WWL underneath,.

Although Fidel is gone, there are still plenty of aging Cuban revolutionaries in positions of power whose mindsets are still stuck in the dynamics of the 1950s. That's why Cuba is still stubbornly operating a decrepit international shortwave service, whose technical deficiencies are routinely lampooned on various SWDX forums.

"The US Imperialists are crimnally oppressing the people of ____________" At least that's what it was in the 70s

Correction: It's always "Yankee Imperialists" and "opressed workers".

My favorite: in Buenos Aires, the Che Guevara fans had painted, crudely, "Yankee Go Home" on many walls and bridges. Then one morning, alongside that slogan everywhere it was painted, neatly stenciled, in the trademark blue paint, was "Via PanAm".

On shortwave the normal Cuban style R. Marti jammers are showing up in the 40 meter Ham band tonight at
7130 & 7140. R. Marti on 7335 & 7435 have the same style jamming.
