Cuban Invasion, etc.

Was it just me? Or was everybody getting a ton of cuban signals on Friday Night?

In Michigan, I heard a cuban on 670 which was simulcasted on 710. I heard what sounded like it could have been the same thing on 890, but it was getting drowned out by WLS. I also heard Radio Reloj on 790 and 950.

Meanwhile, i've been hearing classical underneath KYW on 1060 now for about a week. Anybody know about this?
______________

Mexico City, I believe.

From Columbus, Ohio ...
Can't speak to hearing other things besides KYW on 1060, but the Cuban on 670 has been a huge problem for years. As a Chicago sports fan that station has annoyed the holy heck out of me on occasion, as there are nights that it totally clocks WSCR. It hasn't been as bad in recent years as it seemed to be in the 90s, when the Cuban's domination on 670 seemed quite frequent.
I sometimes hear Spanish under WLS but it's never strong. I don't know that I've ever heard Spanish on 710; that's usually just WOR.

Mexico City 1060, eh? I looked this one up on the internet and I couldn't find much.

As for those cuban stations, they were very strong. Especially 710. There was no sign of WOR for most of the night. And I think I heard them say 'Rebelde' on 670. I don't know much spanish at all, so I don't know.

This AM DX is new for me. I'm a big FM guy, but this is what FM DX'ers do during dead-band season. :)

Post #159 is dedicated to Coldwater's very own WTVB-1590. Not only the voice of Branch County, but my brother's station.

Every now and then Fidel cranks up the high power on his AM stations just to let us know he can still do it. Usually when he's upset at the U.S. about something. Was in Lafayette, IN a couple of weeks ago and the Cuban was wiping out WLS.
______________
OK, I'm gonna vote Democratic next time..just to have a break from liberal whining.

In Memphis there's usually spanish stuff on all of these....660, 670, 710, 770, (on all of those, it's usually the spanish station that dominates), 820 (weak), 830 (in the null of WCCO), 890 (usually equal to or greater than WLS), 1060 and 1180. I know that 710 and 1180 are Fidel trying to block out Radio Marti...and none of those are Radio Reloj...you sometimes can hear that on 570, 870 and 950.

Since I don't speak the language, I don't know where half of those stations are coming from. Where's David Eduardo when you need him?

Radio Educación, Mexico City, 100 kw.

really, this is just differences in propagation. Fidel does not have high power transmitter that work that he is holding back. It just seems that way when you get a good norht-south skip effect

The Cubans are still there tonight, but they don't seem to be as strong as last night. 670 is hardly there but 710 is doing a pretty good number on WOR once again.

I also heard a Reloj station on 1020 underneath KDKA. As luck would have it, the website I went to showed it being in an 'unknown location'.
______________

Interesting, I'm also in Memphis, and I've had no trouble with 830 WCCO, 820 WBAP, or 890 WLS, lately (Love those Minnesota Wild games on 'CCO!). 670 WSCR is usually pretty reliable for me as well. I've actually had more trouble with interference en espanol with 870 WWL lately. Then again, this is all in my car.

I'm listening on a little Grunding shortwave radio. Right now, WSCR is coming in well with Spanish in the background (of course, with WWTQ slop all over it). WBAP is solid, but I can get spanish in its null. WCCO is solid right now (and the Wild are on!!), WWL is solid, and WLS is getting batted around by Cuba.

EDIT: I'm noticing spanish on 1130 for the first time tonight. It's overpowering KWKH.

Hmmm.. I heard that one on Saturday Night. My brother told me there was a spanish station on 1130 from Atlanta.

WLBA-1130 "Radio La Favorita" from Gainesville, GA (simulcasting Atlanta's WAOS-1600) is a daytimer. Depending on when you heard it, it's not that likely.

Unless they forgot to turn themselves off, that's not who it was. It was around 8:30 pm CST when I heard it.

This must be the 1130 in Gainesville, GA which is supposed to drop to 17 watts at night.

Heard Radio Reloj on 820 around 3:30am May 6 in the NW Chicago suburban area...

p.s. Lawppy how is your FM DX tower project coming along?

Radio Reloj can often be heard at night at 870 in the Chicago area, under WWL. You can't really hear the voice transmission, but you can sure hear the second ticks and the morse code "RR" at each minute.

Radio Rebelde used to hammer WOR on 710 in the Philadelphia area at night (probably still does). I'd cry foul, except Tom Ray's IBOC exciter on WOR hammers WLW and WGN all over the east - so turnabout is fair game I guess. ;)

Reloj on 870 under WWL is the one I most often get too.

Radioman, RR on 570 is the strongest one. You just have to null out WIND, which isn't that hard at night. It's not a strong signal anywhere I've been and difficult to listen to, yet the RR signal on 570 covers a huge geographic area. Figured it would boom into the west coast of FL at night, but it wasn't much better than it is up north. And, the local on 560 obliterates it in Miami/Dade.
