Cubs Radio

Tribune has a Cubs radio network. In 2009 there were 45 stations in 11 states....probably about the same this year. They have a couple of affiliates in Florida for the "permament" snow birds. ;D

Thank you for the information. Nice list. I especially noted the station in Manchester, Kentucky. I wonder what is behind that station's choice to air Cubs' games?

Maybe there are alot of transplanted Chicagoans there who own businesses - and be good sponsors?

Maybe the guy who owns the station enjoys the Cubs?

It's all barter so the station plays the network ads and gets the game in exchange. The first sale is profit!

My 4 stations had the Cubs, Sox, Bears, Bulls, Purdue, Indiana and 8 high school games a week.

Cha-ching.

It's nice to see a positive feeling about airing sports particularly (in the case of the Manchester, Ky. station) for a team who appears to not be a geographic favorite. Too often, a station will air satellite feeds or something similar that are a duplication of what others in the region are programming. Management might claim it is bringing them a profit, but they sound just like other nearby outlets.

"Management might claim it is bringing them a profit, ..."

I thought that's what good managers DO as TOP priority?

I often wonder why so few High School games are broadcast. When I ran a couple of stations in OK., A players father was often the owner of the local Ford dealer, etc. We even tried little league games for a while for the same reason. We did HS football, basketball and some baseball. carried the Cardinals baseball, OSU Football and OSU basketball weekend games. We'd sell in-game spots, local postgame shows. I'd do daily sports highlight shows. Great for local advertisers and I could package this stuff!
