Culture Clash: Michelle Patty on WWBA

Referral service and political diva Michelle Patty -- best known for appearing on urban-oriented station WTMP and for her unusual involvement with the unsuccessful election campaign of former elections boss Buddy Johnson -- has moved her show to WWBA, Saturday mornings at 10.

This is starting to get amusing, as some of Patty's positions don't mesh with the WWBA red-meat crowd. For example, she lamented reports that the new Hillsborough County administrator plans to cut the jobs of many blue-collar county workers. The red-meat callers responded that EVERY county worker who can be fired, should be. They also took issue with her attacks of gubernatorial candidate Rick Scott. The caller mix seemed to be about 50-50 Patty-fans and red-meaters.

Her style seems to be to avoid directly engaging the caller's point, then throwing a verbal dart after the hang-up. I do not think she is prepared for the reaction of the red-meat nation, as opposed to her circle of friends. The resulting culture clash has eminent entertainment potential, and perhaps a few strategic callers could really get things going.

The ultimate shock: Patty did a shout out to Uhuru leader Omali Yeshitela, saying two of his sons were having some issues with the law. A shout out to the Uhurus! It truly isn't Mark Larsen's radio station anymore...
