Cumulas Visits CBS Radio Las Vegas

CBS Radio's X1075, KLUC and MIX 94.1 had visit from Cumulas Media this afternoon. While working on a production order, I noticed Marty Basch and Jerry Mckenna walking into one of the studios talking to Lewis and John Dickey. In passing, Marty introduced the two gentlemen to me and they asked what my position is with the company. I told them I was part of the programming team and I was working on a few spots that are due to air on Monday for KXNT. They seem to have showed no interest in KXNT nor the A.M. cluster. My belief is they will be buying the Vegas cluster as a whole and selling off 100.5 and the A.M. stations. Before they walked out I overheard Marty saying they had dinner reservations at Sage Restaurant in Aria resort. My guess is the Dickey's are staying in City Center somewhere. Goodbye CBS Las Vegas! Was great working for you!

They seem to be "parking" AM stations like KGO and KSFO in SF -not putting any money into them...so if they could get the music stations in Vegas I'm sure that would work for them.

You know, it's hard to believe that one of my own employees would make up something as ludicrous as this. This sounds like one of our competitors trying to start a rumor. BTW, the company's name is spelled Cumulus. - JM

And Moonves would not sell one cluster of stations, unless they are buying
the smaller ones in Vegas, Charlotte, San Diego, Sacramento and they tire
kicked Vegas.

Personally, I would think Cumulus would be looking at buying the Lotus or Beasley clusters before they looked at CBS. I assume that CBS would want very top dollar for those signals and that's a REALLY expensive way to get into the stagnant Vegas radio market.

Wow. Pathetic. "I was part of the production team and I was working on a few spots that are due to air on Monday for KXNT."

Anyone that works inside of CBS Radio Las Vegas knows who our "Production Team" is... a very small and incredibly hard working crew which help make the cluster the best sounding in the valley - easily.

Let me state for the record, I would REALLY rather not get bought up by Cumulus, but that said I know better than to take anything written on this board as fact.

If someone in CBS management was showing the Dicky brothers around the CBS offices and introduced a production department employee to them it wouldn't be hard to remember that employee and read him or her the riot act about posting about the visit on a discussion board! RSO...

Rumors and gossip in an organization often result when the orginazation doe not have adaquate internal communication structure. After the over night changes at KGO in SF, it makes sense that thinking people would look for more of the same nationwide

This is obviously a rumor that probably isn't true. However, anyone else think it's weird that a CBS General Manager would post a message like that on this board? Kind of unprofessional if you ask me. I hope, for Jerry's sake, that it wasn't really him. You wouldn't ever see a message from Dan Mason or any of the other CBS Corporate Executives on one of these kind of boards. In fact, I'm pretty sure it's against CBS company policy (as well as the policy of any publically traded radio company). When are they going to find a REAL General Manager at CBS Las Vegas???

The best sounding in the valley? Every time I hear the current Metro PCS commercial play on all of your cluster's stations, I love hearing the Microsoft Outlook new mail notification over the announcer... yeah real pros!

HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!

I'd say CBS cares about local talent. KLUC is live 24/7, local 100% (minus countdown show), KXTE, local jocks only, KMXB, local jocks only, KXNT, despite slacking ratings wise, local in mornings and afternoons (more than many talk stations could say).

So, I'd say CBS is absolutely invested in local talent. I don't see ClearChannel doing the same.

I would say most of the clusters in town are pretty good about having local jocks. Lotus, Beasley, Kemp, and CBS all have mostly live and local jocks. The only one who doesn't is Clear Channel.

"....anyone else think it's weird that a CBS General Manager would post a message like that on this board?"

Actually....I think it's dang refreshing. Way to go, Mr. McKenna....

Finally, a manager in the Communications Business....communicating.

I am not a talk radio listener for the most part, but the canning of Alan Stock and hiring a sound alike was not executed with a lot of "communication mastery." As someone pointed out, in las Vegas if you google "What happened to..." Alan Stock's name completes the blank...Looks like a very clumsy move. I never could stand Stock, but the new guy sounds the same anyway...so I don't care, but the way they communicated the departure was tacky.

Hey Jon David Wells,

Nice to hear from you on the board. You and I have had a couple brief conversations years ago when you lived in Vegas and I certainly hope you're doing well in Dallas. I found you to be a very smart and talented personality. But like a lot of us in radio, you're a little nutty.

I have to agree with holyradio on this topic. As an employee in radio, I would also love a GM that "communicates" all of the secrets within the company. But we all know that's not possible at a publicly traded company. And for a GM to share info about his company on radio-info.com, especially commenting about something as big as a possible merger, is beyond strange. Normally, something as big as debunking rumors of a merger would normally come in the form of a press release from CBS Corporate in New York.

But hey, that crazy Jerry at CBS always keeps it interesting!
