Cumulus/Augusta-Waterville & Bangor sold!

Here's hoping this brings some much needed relief to the talented programmers and on air talent at these stations. Big Brother has had its hand in Northern New England for a long time.

Portland is now a top 100 market. Expect Cumulus to keep these.

Cumulus still (again at least for now) keeps their stations in Portsmouth/Dover/Rochester as well. Would WOKQ being a big success not only in that market but Manchester and Concord I would think they may hold onto that cluster.

With Cumulus being in the financial straits it is, I think every station and cluster is for sale. The trend for the bigger companies like Cumulus, CBS and Clear Channel is to get out of the smaller markets, either by swap or sale if the price is right. The bigger markets are bouncing back much faster than the smaller ones. Most of these groups would like to reduce their national footprint in terrestrial, and leave the smaller markets to local guys and regional chains. They want to make themselves the most attractive for a takeover if they can't pay back their covenants in a couple of years, and being saddled with a bunch of small market stations doesn't help.

I wonder if Townsquare is a potential bidder for the Nassau stations as well, provided there isn't a noncompete clause in the Cumulus/Townsquare swap.

Cumulus shed their smallest markets, so it's not a surprise that Providence, Portsmouth, Portland, Springfield and Norwalk-Stamford made the cut this time around. They're considered medium markets in their portfolio. I find it interesting that Groton/New London, CT wasn't dealt in this deal, as it's similar in size to New Bedford.

You hit the nail right on the head. "this time around" lots of deals were going down at NAB this year. I wouldn't be surprised to hear of Cumulus selling off medium markets here and there starting this fall.
