Cumulus CHR's are the worst I've ever heard

Thrift Shop is at no8 on CHR, no1 on i-tunes, streaming and the hot100, no1 on Rhythmic airplay and still NO CUMULUS add on their CHR stations! That's why we should hope that Power destroys Q100 in Atlanta. Maybe they'll change then.

They also just added Scream and Shout! So late!
Actually, a lot of Cumulus stations started playing Thrift Shop this week. One song they're still ignoring is "Sweet Nothing" by Calvin Harris even though it's number 15. However, they've already started playing Rihanna's new song "Stay" even though it's not in the Top 40 yet.

Really? I really don't understand why these stations add songs so late. Even KXIX in little Bend Oregon has had Thrift Shop in rotation for a few weeks already! One of the better small-market CHRs I think, along with KFFM.

If you look at the Atlanta ratings, Power 96.1 is already killing Q100.

Those are the holiday ratings i. e. people flipping from Q100 and Star to B98.5 to hear interspersed Christmas music

If the trend continues with the next book, then I think Q100 will have to make adjustments - but with this book, it appears that Power's gains could very well be coming from Wild

Finally got 10 spins at WWWQ, good for #44. Nowhere in the top 50 on KLIF. I think I'm gonna start a petition on the whitehouse.gov site asking for all of The Cloud's CHRs to report as Hot AC.

Be sure to post that link here! A station shouldn't be able to report as CHR if most of its playlist is 2-3 years old. Cumulus CHRs really remind me of like the music in a fast food restaurant like Taco Bell. What's even more annoying is most of the songs they play are overplayed stuff that everybody is sick of but it's not quite old enough to become enjoyable to listen to again. My local Cumulus CHR still plays "California Gurls" all the time. It will probably be 5 years before ill be able to listen to that song again and enjoy it as overplayed as it was everywhere in 2010.

WTF is wrong with Cumulus... Still no SWEET NOTHING!

It's at no11 on CHR and at no1 on huge stations like z100!

Gotta play it safe! People would rather hear "Boom Boom Pow" for the trillionth time.

Jan Jeffries has single handedly destroyed radio in many markets!

Seems like some Cumulus stations (WNTQ, WSSX) have started playing this as of last night. Looks like he's finally letting them add it. Took him long enough. Also added this week is the new Bruno Mars song and the new One Direction song, of course. Now "It's Time" is the highest song on the chart they haven't added, which is at number 16.

The entire Cumulus CHR problem could be fixed if Jeffries would let the stations decide for themselves what to add and what kind of rotation to give each song.

Songs like "Boom Boom Pow" by the Black Eyed Peas or "Paparazzi" by Lady Gaga should not be in medium rotation in 2013, and Jeffries is insane for demanding that they be.

Stations should be allowed to add popular songs if the competition is playing them even if they haven't yet met Jeffries' personal litmus test.

My local Cumulus CHR when still owned by Citadel prided itself on playing all the new music first, and usually was a good 2-3 weeks ahead of the ClearChannel station. Now, the CC CHR usually starts playing new music a whole two months sometimes before the Cumulus station finally does. Example: "Call Me Maybe" was a huge hit and it dropped in March 2012. In my market ClearChannel KJYO was playing it as early as April of 2012 but the Cumulus station wasn't playing it until July.

Bchristi, I really don't know what you're hearing. Have you actually looked at their playlist online? They do not play Bad Romance or California Girls every 2 hours as you keep claiming. It looks like they have a big mix show between 5 and 7 on weeknights, and maybe it was in there, but I looked back at the playlist from 10:00 back to 2:00 yesterday and did not see any of the songs you claim they play every 2 hours. A couple things that strike me as odd from looking at the playlist,
1. I notice that a lot of rhythmics play things like One More Night and Beauty and a Beat that I do not see those songs on KKWD's playlist.
2. There are a lot more recurrents and golds than I would like to see on CHR, but they do not only play 1 current at a time.
3. The station overall does sound kind of boring, very little imaging. I do not doubt that they don't sound as good as they used to, but you make it sound like they're twice as bad as they actually are! Does anyone else want to weigh in on this?

The playlist for KKWD doesn't look that bad. Yet, I'm not really a big rhythmic fan so I don't really know what kind of playlist is good on a rhythmic station. I will say it sounds a hell of a lot better than KLAL, but then again just about any station sounds better than the train-wreck Cumulus turned it into. I feel like KKWD is trying to appeal to people who liked CHR back in the '03-'07 era, but haven't really ventured outside it.

And lucky Q100 being allowed to play "It's Time". No other Cumulus station is allowed to play it yet, except for maybe KKMG and WHTS, which for whatever reason are lucky enough to be able to pick their own adds.

Rhythmic stations are usually very heavy on cutting edge music, moreso than even CHR/Pop. Rhythmic stations generally don't fit Jeffries' "play it safe" formula he forces all the stations to follow. The fact that the playlist is more like a rhythmic-leaning Hot AC, and a poorly-programmed one at that, simply sounds bad. KKWD has a limited selection of currents and a very high percentage of their playlist is recurrent or gold. Maybe I am a bit biased against the station because I remember the awesomeness that it used to be under Citadel.

If they want to be a 2000s station, Pop2K on XM is a great model to follow. That station really does a good job of it. KKWD as it stands absolutely needs to drop the slogan "All The Hits."

I have yet to hear "Sweet Nothing" or "Thrift Shop" on my local Cumulus CHR, buuuuuuut they just announced that their next set of music will include Nelly Furtado!
