Cumulus CHR's are the worst I've ever heard

Cumulus is screwing up "Can't Hold Us" on CHR. :(

How? It's Top 10 on most of their stations, and it's #6 on the national chart

Are you serious? On which Cumulus pop station is the song in the top10? Most of them barely play it! Barely in the top20! Only KLIF in Dallas is showing some support.

I don't know where you're looking, man...

It's #7 on KLIF/Dallas
It's #10 on WPRO/Providence
It's #8 on WZRR/Birmingham
It's #10 on KSZR/Tucson
It's #6 on KKOB/Albuquerque
It's #4 on WHTS/Grand Rapids
It's #9 on WBHT/Wilkes-Barre

That covers through market #80, and there are a couple stations that don't show up in Mediabase this week

Just some ex-Citadel stations that try to go against the establishment. Getting only 20 spins from big stations like Q100 ruins its chart run.

^Remember, though, that both Q100 and KRBE are beating their competitors, who both had Macklemore in power rotation last month

Cumulus doesn't let stations go "against the establishment", if that's what you mean, and they don't differentiate programming between stations that are ex-Citadel and stations that aren't - they are, however, more liberal with the stations in more liberal areas of the country

Also want to point out how much respect posters give KAMP and Now 92.3 for going "against the establishment" and not playing Fun or the Lumineers - and those are "big stations" that potentially ruined the chart runs of multiple rock-leaning songs

There are some ex-Citadel Hot AC (like WXLO and WPLJ) and Top40 (like KKMG, WHTS) stations that still enjoy some freedoms that original Cumulus stations never do. You will never see an original Cumulus station play a song that hasn't been added across the board. It still happens sometimes with the stations I mentioned above as examples.

WMGB/Macon played Mumford & Sons, and Of Monsters And Men, both of which were never added across the board

Q100 added Imagine Dragons a month before it was added across the board

Whether a Cumulus CHR is ex-Citadel has nothing to do with the amount of musical freedom it receives, but since most of the ex-Citadel stations are in more liberal areas of the country, it may appear that way for some stations

The Ex-Citadel stations in the South, like KLAL and WSSX, are just as conservative as the typical Southern Cumulus CHR

BTW I'm not sure what you're referring to, here, since every one of Cumulus's Hot ACs are ex-Citadel, except for one that evolved from a Cumulus CHR

Jan allows different adds for Hot ACs than he does for CHRs - the songs WPLJ/WXLO play were all "allowed" across the board for Cumulus Hot ACs

Huh? no they aren't. KEHK, WNNK, and KBBY were never owned by Citadel, though WNNK may be the one you are referring too as the one evolving from CHR, though that was more than 10 years ago.

^Sorry, that's true about KBBY and WNNK being original Cumulus Hot ACs (the other station wasn't in Mediabase)

Still, if you scan all the Cumulus Hot ACs, there is no pattern where ex-Citadel stations are allowed to add songs that original Cumulus stations aren't - there are a few discrepancies, but for the most part the currents are all the same

Maybe you should have a look at WXLO's playlist. They play songs like Madness by Muse, the new Michael Bubble single, the new single by Alabama Snakes. and not just a few spins. High rotation. Other Cumulus HOT ACs, whether they came from citadel or were part of Cumulus from before, don't play those songs at all.

I think you lost track of your point, man - you posted that ex-Citadel stations are treated differently than original Cumulus Hot ACs, and that the same was true for CHRs

WXLO plays Muse and Alabama Shakes, WDVD and WRQX (which are also ex-Citadel) do not play any of those songs, and KBBY (which was an original Cumulus station) does play Muse

There's absolutely no pattern to your claim

Sometimes CUMULUS does things that I like. All CUMULUS CHRs have added "People Like Us" by Kelly Clarkson even though it is at no42 on CHR. Cumulus loves songs from established artists and they are the least ageist company.

My Cumulus station (WNTQ) hasn't. :p

Out of the adds Cumulus has allowed, my station has yet to add "Next To Me" by Emeli Sande, "Cruise" by Florida Georgia Line, "The Way" by Ariana Grande, and "People Like Us" by Kelly Clarkson.

However, my station has added:
MKTO - Thank You
Guinevere - Fly Away
Stefano - Yes To Love
Jake Miller - A Million Lives

None of the other Cumulus stations have added these songs, but my station was allowed to add these because they will be at the station's Summer Jam concert next month and not playing songs by the artists who will be there would look pretty bad.

The new Jennifer Lopez song "Live It Up" was released today! Cumulus LOVES JLO. I am sure they are going to add it today or tomorrow. Very hot track.

WHOT/Youngstown and KSMB/Lafayette LA are playing "Yes To Love" by Stefano

BTW The Cumulus station in Kansas City is allowed to play Drop City Yacht Club "Crickets"

KWYL/Reno is playing Drop City Yacht Club, Drake "Started From The Bottom", Daft Punk "Get Lucky", J. Cole "Power Trip", Miguel "Adorn", Trey Songz "2 Reasons", also John Hart and Wiz Khalifa
