I heard that Cumulus laid off more this week; was wondering if there were any local casualties....Miller wasn't on 97.7 this am......

Tough times all around.....

Before a rumor gets started on Friday Therese Quinn said she was sitting in for Bob Miller, and he is still on the Mix 97.7 website.
However they did force all part timers to take pay cuts, reducing their pay to the minimum wage. For some this barely covers the cost of getting there for a 4 or 5 hour shift . You got to really love radio work there .

Ya gotta love it when the lowest paid are forced to take a pay cut. You can be sure that the top dogs are still getting theirs.

Keep us posted.....

I haven't heard Linda Rosner reading the headlines from the Daily Freeman on WKNY for at least a week. In fact, they have NO local news! Maybe another casuality?

Now that you mention it I had noticed that . For years WKNY has operated semi- autonomously (seemingly) like an old school full service AM station . I wondered how long Cumulus would allow this . Unfortunately it seems to finally have caught up with them .

Speaking of radio news across Town at Clear Channel has been following the Top Of Hour Fox news on WKIP with "LIVE Local and LATE BREAKING" local news brief-even late at night. Previously they had the second half of the Fox TOH news in this time slot late at night.. We radio geeks know better , but some ordinary listeners might be fooled into thinking it isn’t recorded . But then again last week when President Obama addressed the Nation , the news reader said in the 10:00 PM news brief ; “later tonight the President will address the Nation…..” OOPS!

John Tesh is in mid-days at WFAS-FM replacing Mary DaSilva. She still has one weekend shift.

Some house cleaning took place in Danbury and Bridgeport too.

A new low- John Friggin Tesh middays....if thats the best they can do, well.......they already run his show on 94.3 and 97.7 evenings...quality slipping as we speak.

Off topic- noticed WRWD doesn't carry the nascar race on sunday afternoons anymore, and the sister show, racin' country, sunda am...guess it must have cost them money to run it, so now all you get is one of the parttimers or VT, heard Paty Quyn sunday nite....

talk about goin' to he** in a handbasket....

warm590 ??? ???

WFAS-FM had Tesh in the evenings, but moved him to mid-days. Now the evenings are voice tracked. I guess they are just keeping the carrier warm until they move the tx to NYC and sell it.

The AM side is pretty much all voice tracked now. Bob Barnum does some drop-ins with news in the morning, but that's about it. We're not talking about the "Bob Barnum" show here.

Cumulus strikes again!

Remember when WKNY was top 40? It was a great station for its time during the 1970's. I hope if the station will flip to Radio Disney someday, they will play nothing but the Jonas Brothers and Miley Cyrus of "Hannah Montana" on WKNY's "Radio Disney".

And as for John Tesh on "The Wolf", he doesn't belong on a country station, he belongs on an AC station. Dumb robbers!

And yes! WRWD got rid of Crapcar, because it doesn't carry in the afternoons, I remember a few years ago when it was on WGHQ where they used to carry the Crapcar coverage on weekends.

WKNY now uses clips of Hank Gross, of Mid-Hudson News.com, reporting Hudson Valley news. Although it's not local to Kingston, it seems to be updated regularly throughout the day. Previously, Linda Rosner use to whip out a copy of the Freeman at 6AM, read a few headlines without any obvious preparation, add any scanner reports, and call it a news report. By noon, she'd make a tape which was used until midnight. It was pathetic!
