Cumulus Columbia....

From the front page of Radio-Info:

Bill McElveen, Citadel regional executive based in Columbia, is leaving.
McElveen says "I have known the principals of Cumulus for many years and I can assure you that Cumulus is a great company with visionary leadership. They will be terrific owners of our Columbia group of stations." Those stations include AC "B106.7" WTCB and talk WIS (1320). McElveen says in a widely-circulated goodbye note that after 45 years in radio, "I have decided to make a valiant effort to determine what to do when I grow up." Bill served as Chairman of the NAB Radio Board from 1998 to 2000, and has been an effective fund-raiser for NABPAC, the NAB's political action committee

No matter how much you window dress this deal I am afraid the effects are not going to be good for the broadcast industry in general and certainly not South Carolina. I am not saying Cumulus is some evil company but you know as well as I do they are going to look out for themselves and the rest of the broadcast industry will just have to do the best that they can. Some companies still live under the mis belief that cost cutting is still possible with out hurting the over all quality of what they do even in these hard times and that just isn't true anymore, times have changed.
