Cumulus Cuts?

Heard some not so good Christmas gifts were handed out at Cumulus NEPA today.... anyone confirm or debunk?

At least three I heard... one was a morning person - a team mate and a VERY longtime employee. Ouch. Merry Christmas! :p

I heard the X morning show...both members and Fran Pantuso from Magic 93. Hoping Cumulus doesn't force some syndicated crap like Donny Osmond on Magic for a daypart.

People have to realize that radio is one of the cruelest industries.. years of hard work and dedication and you're out in a heartbeat. I wish I could be more sympathetic, but you've been warned before... you'll be out on the street at the whim of some bean-counter who never heard you on the air or ever listened to your show. It's such a great feeling to be on the air.. counterbalance that with the dagger that is job eliminations for no good reason!

as i have posted many times, these people who give employees the ax. your ceo, your district mgr, and even the g.m. at the station. most of them never worked on the air, or even know what a board is. they are again as ive said many times, used car sales people, from other areas, and dont give a damn about the employee who gives 100% on the air. its a shame, and yes, they always do there dirty work near a holiday. but, as i always said, what goes around, comes around. these high paid bimbos will get there day. emo, you are right on. always enjoy your posts.. and its always nice to see scottsans posts too..a bit of advise again to students going to college for broadcasting...save your money...the cowboy..

It's official: Fran's page is no longer on the Magic 93 Web site, and Jim Bone's page is gone from the 97.9 X site. I've been a fan of Fran's show for years; it was my favorite afternoon radio show. She also played nice backround music whenever she spoke. It's a shame that Cumulus fired some of their most well-known personalities. They should have at least waited until after the holidays. Who knows what the future holds for some of the other radio shows and stations in this area...

The GM there use to work in Poughkeepsie, New York on 101.5 WPDH. He started out on the 3pm - 7pm shift back in the 80's. I meet him at a school event in 1984. I am sure came down from the DGM or the RGM or the CEO.

Just the way they did it. Fran was on VAC and they called her to tell her the news and before the holidays too.

yes ,your right, he did come down from n.y.state, he worked at citadel as a salesman when jules riley, and then, jim dorman came here from ca. as operations mgr. after they left, he became the g.m.

It's always a miserable thing to hear about layoffs, especially of people who helped provide the very product and audience for the career assassins to plunder in the first place.

If there are any bonuses coming out of this garbage, I think they should be publicized market-wide on competing stations, investigated and excoriated. Then an effort be made for a group to challenge their licenses. This crap has to stop and an example be made.

But for the time being, let me offer this fervent interim Holiday wish. That if-and-when things get financially claustraphobic enough to rattle this third-rate, hackneyed business model, that the ledges these parasites jump from are high enough to finish the job.

That brings the total of people laid off at the Wilkes-Barre cluster to seven:

Chief Engineer/WARM PD Phil Galasso, November 9
Production/Imaging Director Tom Jenkins, November 9
General Sales Manager John Crawford, November 9
Sales Assistant Kevin Teeter, November 9
Longtime WMGS afternoon drive personality and APD Fran Pantuso, December 21
WBSX morning drive personality Jim Bone, December 21
WBSX morning drive personality and producer Rebecca Frisbie, December 21

Happy Holidays from the greedy white trash in Atlanta!

as far as who tells the person they are fired, most of the time its not the g.m. he hides in his office. he tells the p.d. to do the dirty work for him.. or if the g.m. does tell the person, its by phone or e-mail. they dont have the b.... to do it in person, face to face. thats what ive seen in the past when i was working, and thats what happened to me. alot of good and talented people have been fired from our area, and its a shame, because these are the folks who gave it all for the station they were employed by. i wish the very best to all who have been let go. i know how you all feel..best of luck to all of you..cowboy

This is the very reason I left the business with no regrets. This will reverberate around the Market and hopefully, listeners will realize they are supporting a heartless, immoral, and third rate company. But then again, does anybody really care.

It will be hard to replace Fran and Tom Jenkins. IMHO two of the most talented people I ever had the pleasure of working with. I'm glad I hung my headphones up years ago (and I only did it part time), and those cookie cutters wonder why everyone switched to satellite. It will be interesting to see how the last couple veterans will shake out. Magic has been printing money for years, can Cumulus really think cookie cutter will work in NEPA? I read a few comments before about GM's: (again only IMHO) no one can hold a candle to Jim Loftus: if you Google integrity, honestly and a truly caring people person his name would be at the top of the list!

your right tommy. jim was one of the last g.m.s that new what radio is all about. plus he new his employees too. i go up and down the dial, both fm and am, and i cant find a station worth listnening too. its either automated or they are using interns to run the board. dead air, or bumper music to fill until they hit a hard break, or the news person isnt in the studio. the music stations have no live jocks..the talk station has the same 7 callers everyday. boring..plus they all talk over each other. warms signal is so weak they should just go black. formats suck the way they put the hour clocks togeather is a shame. you and i may be from the old school, but both local radio, and tv..just isnt the same. i tune in once in a while just to see if its any better, but i think im just hoping for a miracle.
