CUMULUS GOES COUNTRY WITH 99X

Hopefully the subject will get me some posts But in all seriousness. I've been hearing some buzz about 99X going country. Will it happen? Was Cumulus hoping for everyone to be fired or leave 99x, then have the rating tank for a format change? Is there any truth to the rumors I've been hearing?

As moronic as Cumulus is, they would've flipped X to country on day 1. Cumulus doesn't wait to change things. Cumulus doesn't do market research. They do what they do (tank stations) because they want to.

They are rumored to be flipping to Country-Rock. The "Willie" format is hot right now. And they actually encourage the jocks to have some edge, which is SORELY needed in the Country format.

"Spanish" is a language, not a format. Atlanta has how many English stations?

If you want to be picky, ALL Spanish stations are in Spain, too. They are Spanish language stations.

There are a veriety of formats on the Spanish langauge staitons. Only one, Viva (oin two frequencies) comes close to covering well the MSA day and night. The other stations are a motly collection of rimshots and daytimers and directional stations, many of which will not survive for long.

Which brings me to the main point... as long as a station can make money, there is "room" for the station and the format.

This is what I have heard with regard to that rumor. Without the particulars of the show Cumulus is supposedly sitting on some monster country morning show that they paid a fortune for, that is supposedly huge in the ATL and does not have a a home as for now. This is where the rumor supposeldy came from. So if anyone knows to fill in the blanks then that may shed some more light.

Cumulus signed Bandy and Baily to a syndication deal... but they didn't do much in this town. And I certainly wouldn't say they were/are huge.

B&B were doing well indeed with white males! It was WSB or KHX if you wanted the soda cracker audience.
Victor just got tired of the guys wanting more money.....just like he did with Moby. It wasn't about ratings....it was that infamous "bottom line." KHX management is of the opinion that the station(format) is a monopoly, and will survive with even Joe Weber as morning host....bird calls and all! Why pay all that money when "heavu duty hosts" are not needed?
Does Lew and David have the balls for a REAL country format? Commander Cody, Steve Earl, Emmylou Harris, New Riders of the Purple Sage, Asleep at the Wheel?? Would they ever give away a 1974 Fleetwood mobile home.....just to generate TSL?
How does country help Lew get laid?

Would that big Country Morning show that Cumulus is sitting on by any chance be Moby? BTW I'm not starting a rumor. My sister was a big fan of 99x and heard this from inside the building. She lives in Atlanta and gives me the inside scoop. I'm in Columbus and for the most part don't know what's going on in Atl.
